CPC Analytics - Winter Programme: Case Study Problem Statement
CPC Analytics - Winter Programme: Case Study Problem Statement
The goal of the winter mentorship this December is to let you in on the essentials that companies
expect students to know. Analytics in our context is an amalgamation of:
The priority order of importance with respect to the winter mentorship is the same as given above.
This short programme is only meant to be an overture of the months of work that you must put in.
The five days starting December 18th to 22nd will consist of:
5 tests in DI: The timed tests are to be taken as per the schedule given above
First 40 puzzles: Try solving the puzzles first and then go through the solutions
The assignment must be finished and submitted to identify your weaknesses, based on which more
practice problems will be given.

TECHNICAL RESOURCES
1) Theoretical studies:
ISLR – Introduction to Statistical Learning, is a book that can help develop fundamentals in
theory. Several chapters are too advanced for the time being and shall remain optional, but the
rest are recommended. The book also includes simultaneous application in R. For those in the
Python track, use the book for theory, for those in the R track, use the book to the fullest. Each
chapter also includes concept-based exercises at the end.

2) Applied ML/Coding:
Several online courses are available to give you a jumpstart in Data Science. It would be
advisable to choose them based on the time you have left until the summer, CPCs and the
next semester. Some of the suggested courses that have been taken by seniors:
i. Machine Learning with Python: A Practical Introduction by IBM on edX
ii. Machine Learning A-Z™: Hands-On Python & R in Data Science on Udemy (very
detailed and covers several advanced topics)
iii. Data camp, Coursera also have good courses
If you are taking courses other than those mentioned, contact your mentor to get the
contents on the course verified.
Most of these courses have Python or R as a pre-requisite. If you are starting from scratch,
take the time to learn the basics of Python, NumPy, Pandas and other crucial tools necessary
to start.
Your progress in technical skills will be monitored throughout the CPCs but is not a compulsory or
determining criteria for the CPCs. It is optional but highly recommended that you follow this
through.
If you are extremely interested in taking up the technical aspects of Data Science, reach out to your
mentors, we have additional Jupyter notebooks from paid courses that will be useful.
