2. Listen to the following monologue and fill in the blanks.

3. Listen to two students complaining about the weather and the bus. As you listen , fill

Student 2 : right. It’s cold outside and you know I have to wait for a bus.

Student 1: yes, and it isn’t fun to wait more than fifteen minutes.

12. Martin Priyanto is the great teacher because He has been teaching English in senior high
school since the late 2000s. He has spoken English fluently since he was a child. He lived in
America for five years due to his parent’s occupation. He has edited and written nine English
educational books. By the end of this years, he will have written ten English educational books.

13. Mira Lesmana has been interested in film since she was a teenager.

14. Anggita will have difficulties by the time she enters university.

15. Desi Anwar worked for RCTI, an Indonesian private TV station for almost 9 year before she
worked for Metro TV in 2001.

Discuss the use of the tenses in the text above

Do they have the same patterns as the ones you have already studied in this chapter?

Answer: The verb used by the simple present tense is V1 while the past tense is V2, if the future
tense usually likes to use 'to be + going to' or 'will'

What’s the different?

Answer : Its uses are also different. If the present tense is used for events that are usually carried
out or can be said to be 'habit', if the past tense is used for activities that have occurred in the
past, well while the future tense is used for something that has not happened but has been
planned.

Last holiday I went to France. I rented a car and had a road trip there. I (1) driving (drive) to the
next city for an hour when I saw a man waving to stop me. He asked for a lift and I gave it. In the

Racers’ victory does not solely depend on the capacity of the racers, but also the team, as well as
the mechanic. They make sure that engines run well until the end of the race. Look! As soon as
the car is coming, mechanics are running to it, checking and tuning the car. They must finish the
work in a minute in order not to waste time. They (6) are filling (fill) the tank with petrol when
