TURBINE

1.A steam turbine is a device which extracts thermal energy

from steam and uses it to do mechanical work on a rotating
shaft.
2.That rotary motion is used to generate electricity from
generator. It is based reversible adiabatic process or
isentropic process, where entropy is constant.
3.The turbine rotates at 5900 rpm.
4.Superheated steam enters at pressure of 90 kg/cm^2 and
temperature of 510 centigrade.
5.The steam leaves at 55 centigrade & 1 kg/cm^2 to air cooled
condenser.
6.The steam gets converted into water and stored in
condensate tank.
7.Some amount of steam is ejected through three bleeds
namely, low pressure heater, deaerator, high pressure heater.
8.The water collected in tank is fed through boiler feed pump to
feed control station.
9.The water already have high temperature than DM water is
passed through economizer where it is heated.
10.It is than stored in boiler drum as a steam. Thus, the cycle is
repeated to save heat supplied to boiler.
11.The efficiency of cycle is about 32 - 33% only.
