In a candid conversation, Mishkaat Imrani talks to Shreyas Mendiratta, Gunjan Saini, Viraj Kapoor, Devika
Khade, Chaitali Oak, Geetika Singh, and Vidya Lakshmi R about their content creation journey, their nos-
talgia, ups and downs, challenges, and how it’s been so far.
Tell us about
the beginning!
The field of content creation has seen a rise in the last
couple of years. Some creators started their journey
out of passion, while for some it was just a hobby and
a will to share their skills and interests with people.
For Chaitali Oak, it was her passion. “Well, I always
was a ‘ शौक़ीन ’ of clicking pictures by myself. During
the lockdown, the self-portrait thing really caught
up with young artists as well as with me. That’s
when I came across Mansi Ugale, a self-portrait pho-
tographer and her work really inspired me. In July
2019, I started with self-portrait photography and
created informative IGTV showing people how they
could click pictures by themselves creatively”, says
this digital creator and someone who loves express-
ing herself through pictures.
Things we learned
and unlearned!
There’s learning in every experience and tough times
and challenges are always going to be around but Vidya Lakshmi R @its_vidya
what we learn from them and how we tackle them
is the real deal. “My journey has definitely been a
roller coaster ride. I’m not only a content creator but
also a daughter, wife, daughter-in-law, sister to two
of my siblings, so I can say that my plate’s full. But,
with the support of my family, friends, and followers
my journey on the platforms has been so good”, says
Vidya. For Geetika, making content was and is still
difficult. “But it’s so good at the same time, as I love
what I am doing now. I love challenges and to make
myself better I have to work on these challenges.”
For Chaitali, it took an entire year to get a proper
reach and improve her work. “It was truly a strug-
gle to create the whole set up by self, shoot and clean
it up. There were times when I put hours to set up
and the shoot failed. Finding a good location, outfit,
shooting, and managing my studies side by side was
a tough thing to do. By 2021, I had improvised a lot
and had gathered a genuine audience who not just
appreciated my work but also felt it. That’s a big win
for me.”
One thing that didn’t work for Viraj was trying to de-
viate from his niche and make Reels only for engage-
ment. “When I was starting off, one of the primary
challenges was to gain that base I wanted to cater to.
Now that I move ahead, more concentration lies on
how I’d want to retain that base and make sure the
audience never gets a feeling of monotony. So yes, it
isn’t a smooth sail, but that’s what we all have signed
up for, right?” However, for Vidya, it was her skin co-
lour that was the biggest task. “It was a challenge for
a brown skin woman to be recognized at least back in
the day. So to think outside the box but also embrac-
ing who I am and trying not to fit into beauty stan-
dards was one task.” Vidya also found the algorithm
difficult, but now it’s all fine for her. “The challenge
now is to be consistent and find new content ideas so
it’s not overlooked.”
The hustle culture has made all of us a little more competitive along with glamorizing
being overworked. We’re all running towards goals and that’s fabulous but then we
get upset if we aren’t able to check all the boxes in our to-do lists. We’re constantly
thinking about schedules and pending tasks even when we’re not working. Working
hard and doing everything to achieve your goals is important but how we do it all
matters. If this is affecting your physical and mental health, then it’s time you unwind
a little and start taking breaks to keep your creative juices flowing.
In this breezy conversation, we talk to Sucharita Tyagi, Ronit Ranjan, Mariyam Saigal,
Arouba Kabir, and Shrima Rai about the importance of taking breaks, unwinding,
de-stressing, and much more.
Working hard VS
being a workaholic
It’s great if you love your work, but not that great if you
do it a little too much. An excess of anything is harmful
so when you become a workaholic, there are chances that
you aren’t taking enough breaks and all you want is to
complete your tasks. Also, if you fail or there’s any kind of
a delay, sometimes you even lose your cool. Fashion and
lifestyle blogger, Shrima Rai, thinks a workaholic lacks
balance. “Earlier perhaps I had phases of it but I think
you lack balance when you over work. I definitely need
balance between my personal life and work to keep my
passion alive.” Likewise, Arouba Kabir, a therapist and
counselor also believes that being a workaholic can lead
to instability. “I know my professional life is very import-
ant but so is my personal life, my family, and social life. I
choose to divide my day accordingly where I am able to
spend time with myself, my loved ones and work equal-
ly.”
How do you
unwind and de-stress?
The best part about taking breaks is it’s all about what you
like. If it’s sleeping that makes you feel great, do that. Do
you enjoy exploring new places? Then do that! “Whenever
your body tells you to take a break you take a break. When
you feel thirsty, it means you’re already dehydrated. It’s al-
ready past that moment when you should have consumed
water. Similarly, when your brain is making mistakes and
you can’t remember phone numbers then you’re already too
late”, says Sucharita. Ronit believes you enjoy resting when
you actually need it. “There’s no such thing as the right time
to take a break. With time, I have realized that it’s like a mar-
athon of sprints. You have to do a task. You put in all the josh
and effort. You do it, finish it, and then take some rest. After
that, you get back to task no. 2 and you do it all over again.”
A lambi chutti or
a quick short break?
Do you enjoy a long weekend packed with activities, ex-
ploring cities, photographs, food or a quick short break
Ronit Ranjan I @_ronitranjan_ like a power nap, reading your favourite book, or a day off?
“Sometimes a long break works best to reevaluate a whole
Life Coach, TEDx speaker, Poet, and Ex-Fauji list of things vs a short break that is a regular occurrence.
Both are required in the long run like an annual trip and
It’s okay if you’ve been hard on yourself in the past. It’s also
okay if you have recently realized the importance of taking
breaks. Sucharita has been working since she was 17 and
she realized the importance of taking breaks when she
turned 30. “After a point you can’t continue to push your
body as much as you used to when you were 23. So going
to bed and waking up on time and exercising everyday are
some of the things that become more important than con-
stantly going forward.”
Ronit feels that it’s short breaks that work for him. “These are
better because when I’m working, I take a break in between,
get energized, and get back to it. Even if I’m working 6 to 8
hours a day, I’ll work for 2 and then chill for a bit and then
continue. Those quick 15 minutes really help me feel ener-
gized for the next seating.”
2021 was like a big roller coaster ride. Full of ups and downs!
There have been times when we didn’t know how to go
ahead and also times when we wanted to stop the clock and
stay in certain moments forever. But, then time flies and so
did 2021, a year that’ll always stay close to our hearts for
many reasons.

2021, on the other hand, has been filled with ups and downs for a lot of us owing to the second wave of the
pandemic. And came a full circle when it comes to beauty and skincare. It saw people embracing their skin
and really looking after it, instead of putting on layers of concealer and colour correctors to hide those
dark circles and acne marks. To understand beauty trends in 2021 better, Arushi Dusaj spoke to some
