Checking Progress
It then gets submitted and at the end of the month, progress is checked, as he again goes on site
to check for work that has actually been done. A comparison is made between their estimates and
the current costs, from here onwards, payment certificates are produced. I learnt that, this is an
ongoing process until the end of the project.
First site visit
Being on site, I noticed how big a role safety played and the employees played their parts and
ensured that they had covered their bases, guard rails, channels, pavement, building walls to
prevent cars from toppling into homes, construction of the medians as well as tollgates. The first
site visit turned out to be quite the adventure, as the Mr. Amir sb patiently walked me through it,
discussing the activities.
We visit the site and start work for the layout of the building we reading drawings ans plans and
start work for the layout.

1. Strings
2. Showel
3. Spade
4. Tape
5. Lime
6. Hammer
7. Pegs
These things collect from store and go to site for the layout. During layout we make profile and
setting out the building blocks and there corners which is in 90 degree and ratio of triangle should
be 3:4:5.Layout complete within 3 days of whole site.

Excavation
• After complete the layout company starts Excavation work for foundation .
• Normally 1-2 earth excavators were used for excavating the soil or earth for the batter
foundation .
• The filling is done in layer not exceeding 20cm layer and then its compacted.
Fig.3.2
Excavation is complete after i week whole the site. After excavate the earth we use soil
compactor to compact the soil of foundation base.

3.2 Third Week (24/02/2021-02/03/2020)
Figure 3.3
Masonry work in foundation.
Brick work in foundation which ratio is 1:5 and construct 4 steps
Step no.1 = thickness 6 inch and breadth is 27inch Step no.2 = thickness is 6 inch and breadth
is 22.5 inch Step no.3 = thickness is 3 inch and breadth is 18 inch Step no. 4 = thickness is 3
inch and breadth is 13 inch and then start super structure wall above the ground level which
height is 11 feet these foundation is used for ordinary work in the college like store room or
security room .
Raft concrete for the foundation
This is a frame structure multy story building. So, that bear the load of upper story
building we use raft foundation in the whole bed of the of the building .
Detail of raft foundation or bed Thickness of raft = 2.5 foot Concrete ratio = ( 1:1.5:4) Steel bars =
4 sutr or 6sutr in diameter 40 or 60 grade Steel bars are used in raft bed which bear heavy loads of
upper stories.
8
Spacing of steel bars in steel mesh is 9 inch in both sides main bars and distribution bars.
Some pictures of raft foundation are given below.

Fig 3.4
In the steel mesh 6 suter steel bar is used. In this raft foundation 2’x2’square columns are
constructed which bear internal load of beams and partition walls. 6 sutr Steel bars are also
used is these columns.
Fig 3.5
9
Raft Foundation have the advantage of reducing differential settelment as the concrete slab
resists differential movements between loading positions .

Construction of plinth beam
2.5 feet raft bed and and 2feet earth filling now plinth beam is constructed which size is given
below. This beam is constructed above the ground level which get after after filling.
P.C.C work for plinth beam
(1:4:8) plain cement concrete is laid before the construction of plinth beam this concrete work is
done after 2 days from column to column. The level of p.c.c if 6 inch below the G.L. We
complete the work and start curing for the p.c.c.

Some pictures of p.c.c work for beam are given below.

12
In this plinth beam 10 bars are used which size is 6 sutr and tie with stirups in 3 inch space
center to center. and 3 sutr bars are used to tie the main bars that is called stirups. Spacing of
stirups near the column is 3 to 4 inch center to center and at mid of the beam spacing of
stirups is 6 to 9 inches.

In this week labour set the steel cage between columns and this process complete after 4
days.

3.5 Sixth Week ( 02/12/2021 -10/12/2021)
Construction of Retaining wall.
In these days construction of retaining wall is also start. This wall is construct in the basement and
detail of this wall is given below.
Detail of Retaining wall.
Boundary Retaining wall height is 15 feet and basement rataining wall hieght is 17’ feet. Thickness
of both wall is 10 inch(0.833 feet). And basement retaining wall thickness is 15 inch the steel bar
which is used in the retaing wall is 4 suter in dia meter and lenght of retaining wall is 624 feet.
Construction of columns
There are many types of columns which are used in this building. All the types of columns are
given below.
Types of columns
• Coner column
• Edge column
• Center column
Types of columns according to shape
• Square column
• Circular column
• Rectangular column.
In this building columns bear maximum load of the structure and transfer to the forundation. In
these columns heavy reinforcement install.

In this bock 18”x18” rectangular corner column, edge column is also 18”x18” inch and wall
between these column is 9inch thickness. And height is 10 feet.
15
Wall construction detail
For masonary work morter ratio or c/s ratio is (1:4) and use standard bricks for the construction.
Estimation of bricks
First of all we calculate the whole block brick work volumn. Include 9 inch wall thickness and 4
inch partition wall and after we find the total brick brick work volunn we multiply 13.5 brick/cft
with total volumn. The volumn of Doors, Windows and ventilators is deduct from the total volumn
of the bricks . Block brick work was continue.
Construction of walls.
Fig 3.16
Door size
For the enterance in the room or block standard door size is use. Size of door is according to
malysian standard 7’x3.6’.
Fig 3.17
16
Window size
In the block or building different types of windows are installed. Some standard sizes are given
below.
Window sizes.
Fig 3.18
In the class room 6’x6’ window is used and administration block 6’x4’9” window size is used
Fig 3.19
Brick work over the window , door and veltilator we used lintel to bear triangular load of the
walls .and lintel we use for the window size is given below
LxBxH= 8’x9”x6” and construct with concrete ratio is (1:2:4).
17
Formwork for lintel shiwn in fig.6.6 which is given below.
Fig 3.20
In the Lintel 4 steel bar which are 4 sutr in diameter are used and concrete ratio is 1:2:4. Brick
work below the lintel is complete with in 22 days whole the block and form work for lintel is
remove after 14 days after masonry work above the lentil. The picture of form work is given
below.

3.8 9th Week ( 20/12/2021 -28/12/2021)
Steel fixing for roof slab.
Main bars and distribution bars spacing is 6 inch center to center. Steel mesh is provided in bith
zones like compression zone or tensile zone.
Electricity pipe installation .
During the steel fixing electricity work is also continu and pipes are installed in slab for fan
fittings or lighting purpose. Some pictures of roof slab are given below.During electricity work
standard dimentions are taken. For slab concrete cover we use marble cut pieces which is place
below the steel mesh and steel bars rests on it. Brick work is complete within 17 days above the
lentel and in whole the block and we also remove the from work of the lentil. Now building is
ready and clear for the r.c.c slab for this slab engineers dicided that the slab should be twoway
slab and thickness of slab is 6” .
Form work for roof slab.
Height of roof is 10’6” and roof level is 10’ feet
In this form work beam is also include and reinforcment for beams is also include in steel
mesh. There are three types of beams.
1. Drop beam
2. Hidden beam or seal beam
3. Invert beam.
These beams has different sizes at different location. Steel plates and wooden braces are used in
Formwork standrad work is also used in this building. Formwork is complete after 13 days .

start. Now building is almost complete.
