Training Outline

1. Site tours.
2. Office work.
3. Drawing study.
4. Inspection work.

2.1 First week

I went for medical tests as I needed a medical certificate declaring me fit for work, before I could
go on site. Once that was done, an induction followed, where the safety officer went through
safety measures on site, naming things to be on the lookout for.
Estimate
I got handed over my certificate and could go on site. I got the chance to work with three
qualified Quantity Surveyors; one junior and two seniors they started off with a brief overview of
what quantity surveyor’s do. He described them as Cost Estimators/‘budget rollers’.
Making (B.O.Q)
He described the process: as the junior, he goes down to site to take up measurements, which he
then uses together with the BOQ to calculate a rough estimate of much the project will cost ( or
at least costs for the next month). Together with the seniors, they make provision for extra’s and
under. They then evaluate what they’ve gathered, so as to compile a report on the cost estimates.

B.O.Q Summery Date: 11/10/2021

Figure 2.2

Checking Progress
It then gets submitted and at the end of the month, progress is checked, as he again goes on site
to check for work that has actually been done. A comparison is made between their estimates and
the current costs, from here onwards, payment certificates are produced. I learnt that, this is an
ongoing process until the end of the project.
First site visit
Being on site, I noticed how big a role safety played and the employees played their parts and
ensured that they had covered their bases, guard rails, channels, pavement, building walls to
prevent cars from toppling into homes, construction of the medians as well as tollgates. The first
site visit turned out to be quite the adventure, as the Mr. Amir sb patiently walked me through it,
discussing the activities.
We visit the site and start work for the layout of the building we reading drawings ans plans and
start work for the layout.

Chapter -3-SKILL ATTAINED

3.1 Second Week (15/10/2021-23/10/2020)

Layout Of The Building
After arrange the labour and instruments and accessories for the layout.
I went to the site and start work for layout. We collect some things which are given below.

1. Strings
2. Showel
3. Spade
4. Tape
5. Lime
6. Hammer
7. Pegs
These things collect from store and go to site for the layout. During layout we make profile and
setting out the building blocks and there corners which is in 90 degree and ratio of triangle should
be 3:4:5.Layout complete within 3 days of whole site.

Some pictures of site layout are given below.

Fig.3.1

6
Excavation

• After complete the layout company starts Excavation work for foundation .

• Excavation was carried out both manually as wel as mechanically.

• Normally 1-2 earth excavators were used for excavating the soil or earth for the batter
foundation .

• The filling is done in layer not exceeding 20cm layer and then its compacted.

• Depth of excavation was 5’4” from ground level.

• Hatachi excavator is used for excavation.

Some pictures are taken during excavation in the field . Which are given below.
Width of foundation is 3 feet
Depth of foundation 4.5’ below the ground level .

Fig.3.2
Excavation is complete after i week whole the site. After excavate the earth we use soil
compactor to compact the soil of foundation base.

3.2 Third Week (24/02/2021-02/03/2020)

Concrete work in foundation

After completion of compaction use lean concrete in the foundation to bear heavy load of the
sturcture.
Detail of concrete.
Concrete work starts by following this x-section.
thickness of concrete work is 12 inch in the foundation. Breadth of concrete if 3feet
Ratio of concrete is (1:8:6)

Figure 3.3
Masonry work in foundation.
Brick work in foundation which ratio is 1:5 and construct 4 steps
Step no.1 = thickness 6 inch and breadth is 27inch Step no.2 = thickness is 6 inch and breadth
is 22.5 inch Step no.3 = thickness is 3 inch and breadth is 18 inch Step no. 4 = thickness is 3
inch and breadth is 13 inch and then start super structure wall above the ground level which
height is 11 feet these foundation is used for ordinary work in the college like store room or
security room .
Raft concrete for the foundation
This is a frame structure multy story building. So, that bear the load of upper story
building we use raft foundation in the whole bed of the of the building .
Detail of raft foundation or bed Thickness of raft = 2.5 foot Concrete ratio = ( 1:1.5:4) Steel bars =
4 sutr or 6sutr in diameter 40 or 60 grade Steel bars are used in raft bed which bear heavy loads of
upper stories.

8
Spacing of steel bars in steel mesh is 9 inch in both sides main bars and distribution bars.
Some pictures of raft foundation are given below.
Picture of raft foundation.

Fig 3.4
In the steel mesh 6 suter steel bar is used. In this raft foundation 2’x2’square columns are
constructed which bear internal load of beams and partition walls. 6 sutr Steel bars are also
used is these columns.

Fig 3.5

9
Raft Foundation have the advantage of reducing differential settelment as the concrete slab
resists differential movements between loading positions .

Fig 3.6

All About Raft Concrete

After the process of excavation and compaction of soil laying of plain cement concrete that is
r.c.c. A layer of 2.5 feet was made in such a manner that it was not mixed with the soil.
It provide a soild bars for the raft foundation and a mix of 1:4:8 that is 1 part of cement to 4 parts
of sand and 8 part of coarse aggregate by volume were used in it.
R.c.c conrete is vibrated to achieve full compaction.
At our site, raft foundation are used to spread the load from a structure over a large area,
normally the entire area of the structure.
Normally raft foundation is used when large load is to be distributed and it is not possible to
provide individual footing due to space constraints that is they would overlap on each other.

3.3 Fourth Week (03/11/2021-11/11/2021)

Earth filling after Raft Bed
When the raft foundation is complete the earth x-section detail of raft and earth filling
Raft bed Thickness = 2.5’ Earth filling layer = 2’ feet up to plinth level
Use excavator for earth filling up to raft foundation after earth filling the total depth of
foundation is 5 feet with out plinth beam. Earth refilling pictures.
For this work Doosan excavator is used. This soil filling is used for floor sub grade.
Filling
Fill work will follow the erection of the foundation column. Bulk pit and trench excavations need
to be filled with a better soil type, which have better compaction character and would bring the
minimun required proctor density. In order to attain the minimun standard as mention on the bill
of quantity, they deploy suitable machineries.
Filling work is complete after 4 days . when the filling is complete we leave it for compaction
and stop work for 3 days due to heavy rain fall . rain water helps to compact the soil .

15
Wall construction detail
For masonary work morter ratio or c/s ratio is (1:4) and use standard bricks for the construction.
Estimation of bricks
First of all we calculate the whole block brick work volumn. Include 9 inch wall thickness and 4
inch partition wall and after we find the total brick brick work volunn we multiply 13.5 brick/cft
with total volumn. The volumn of Doors, Windows and ventilators is deduct from the total volumn
of the bricks . Block brick work was continue.
