Good morning everyone, today we will be reporting about a short story entitled, “A Day of the Country”

which is written by Anton Chekhov. But before we narrate the story, let us first get to know the author.
Anton Chekhov was born on January 29, 1860. He died last July 15, 1904 and he writes classic and
theater short stories. The characters include Terenty, Fyokla, Danilka, and Silanty. Terenty is the
protagonist and a cobbler. Fyokla is a six year-old girl and her older brother is Danilka. There is also
Silanty, which is Terenty’s bosom friend and a sacristan. The story we are about to tell you is a very
touching story, a contemplation on the beauty of nature and homage to the knowledge of country folk.

It is not from spite that it thunders – Terenty loves and values all aspects of knowledge.

The moral of the story A Day in the Country is to not take for granted the wonderful things in nature. In
the modern days, people have been too preoccupied with technology that they forget to appreciate the
benefits and wonders of nature. Living a simple life does not mean living an unsatisfactory life.
