1) ABSTRACT

The video aims to integrate rapidly changing technology into the very fabric of
technology and learning. The video also discuss about the advantages to students and
teachers for using instructional technology in the classroom. The video also explained
about learning wall technology such as improve the learning accessibility for students
with social economic challenges as well as those with learning disabilities.

2) INTRODUCTION

Instructional technology is the theory and practice of using technology for education.

m
er as
Encompassing the design, development, use, management, and evaluation of

co
technology in education, instructional technology can take many forms. Anything

eH w
from electronic whiteboards to online courses or even virtual reality classrooms can

o.
rs e
be considered as instructional technology. While the applications and benefits of
ou urc
instructional technology vary widely, all instructional technology shares one main
purpose that is to create engaging and effective learning experiences. Many
o

applications of instructional technology have proved effective at achieving this goal.

aC s
vi y re

Experts widely agree that instructional technology provides many benefits to the
education process, including better access to information, more opportunities for
collaboration, and better capabilities for meeting diverse learners needs. For years,
ed d

educators have been introducing new technologies into both pedagogy and the
ar stu

physical learning environment, and as technology has continued to advance, society

has become increasingly reliant upon technology for everyday life. This reliance is
is

expected to grow stronger and more deeply with time. Therefore, it is more important
Th

than ever that educators and educational institutions embrace technology in the craft
of teaching and the mission of learning. In Franklin Pierce Schools, they have been
sh

incorporating technology in the classroom for decades but in the last few years they
have worked hard to integrate rapidly changing technology into the very fabric of
teaching and learning.

3) OBJECTIVES OF THE VIDEO

The objective of this video is to integrate rapidly changing technology into the very
fabric of teaching and learning in Franklin Pierce Schools District. In 2010, a diverse
group of stakeholders came together to establish a 20 year capital projects vision for
the school district. One of the outcomes of this planning effort was a commitment to
ensure that school facilities could accommodate a one-to-one computing device ratio
or teachers and students. On average, Franklin Pierce Schools are over 50 years old
before today’s technology was even conceived. So accomplishing this commitment
would take years of planning and implementation. In 2011, every teacher was
provided a district issued laptop. In 2012, taxpayers approved a twenty seven point

m
er as
five million dollar capital levy that allowed the district to install a learning wall in

co
eH w
every classroom. Learning walls include audio enhancements with microphones, a

o.
projector, a screen and easy connectivity with laptops, tablets, document cameras and
rs e
other devices. In 2013, the district upgraded its wide area network to provide two
ou urc
gigabytes per second internet speed to all schools and in 2014 the district won a grand
provided by the Apple Corporation that allow the four hundred and fifty students at
o

James sales elementary to pilot a one-to-one device program. If the effort proves
aC s
vi y re

successful the district plans to expand the project providing the tablet to all seven
thousand eight hundred students in the district.

4) DISCUSSION OF THE VIDEO

Learning wall technology improve the learning accessibility for students with social
economic challenges as well as those with learning disabilities. Learning walls
include audio enhancements with microphones, a projector, a screen and easy
connectivity with laptops, tablets, document cameras and other devices. With the new
audio system, teachers have the microphones around their neck allows the teachers
voices to be evenly projected throughout the classroom. Students throughout the
classroom can be more connected to the teacher even if the teacher in the far corner.
Having the mic systems for students to use, the other children are highly engaged in
what their classmates are saying and they are eager to participate. Students also got to

m
er as
use the document cameras to show their classmates their work and students get to use

co
eH w
the microphones to tell the other students about their work and how they solve it.

o.
Another than that, the tools that schools provided to the teachers are tablets that could
rs e
reach out to the using online programs. The audio system that was also put in place by
ou urc
the learning wall could be part of that engagement with the students.

5) RECOMMENDATION
vi y re

I recommend that technology be made available on an equitable basis for use in improving
student learning and enhancing teacher professional development. Technology includes
ed d

computers, calculators, and other learning tools that can help students with a diversity of
ar stu

learning needs and preferences. In addition, technological tools provide teachers with an
enhanced array of strategies for instruction. Besides that, enhance the ability of educators to
is

support and guide learners in a networked learning environment. Two action steps in the
Th

educator professional development arena include increasing funding for professional

development and matching up this funding with teacher quality policies. That way, educators
have the tools and the knowledge to lead students in digital learning.

6) CONCLUSION

Overall, instructional technology is central to many sectors of society and its

integration into the education process has great promise for student learning. With
instructional technology, one can expect increased efficiency and effectiveness on
both part of teachers and students. Instructional technology can also prompt
pedagogical change and address issues that affect learning, teaching and social
organization. Instructional technology can therefore be seen as both a tool and catalyst
for change. Students should embrace technology for them to benefit and teachers
should be open to introducing instructional technology into the classroom to improve
and innovate their teaching practice.
