Problem overview
The challenge when creating the application
project was to meet the expectations of
laboratory patients and alleviate their pain
points.

Some of the problems that needed attention

were:
● Reminder the user of an upcoming test
● Informing the user of the current stage of
their test
● Allowing the user to select a laboratory
by distance or price, and additional option
to search for a specific test instead of a
laboratory
Discovery:
Research & Analysis
In order to collect the information needed to
create the best possible reception of the
application, we conducted a survey and,
additionally, direct conversations with users.
The collected data helped us to implement
solutions necessary from the user's point of
view.
The survey was conducted on 30 people from
various backgrounds. Face-to-face interviews
were conducted with 5 people, also with
different backgrounds.
Key findings & Insights

We have learned from the interviews and

surveys that a very large majority of users
consider information about the status of the
test necessary when performing laboratory
tests.
Key findings & Insights
“I have to write down the date of the upcoming test
on the calendar in my smartphone.” - Participant 3

In face-to-face interview participants admitted

that they had trouble remembering the dates of “There were no information nor notification about
available test results. It was very frustrating. ” -
upcoming laboratory tests. They also lacked

feedback from the laboratory as to whether the
test results are already available.
Key findings & Insights “I don’t want to waste a lot of time traveling to the
lab. I want it to be as close as possible.” -
Participant 3

An important aspect for the participants when

searching for a laboratory or laboratory test
were such criteria as: location, price and opinion
about a given laboratory.
Design: Concept & Sketching
After conducting surveys and interviews, I was
surprised how inefficient the system for receiving results
via the Internet is. Moreover, participants in the study
shared many of their insights on the subject of
communication between laboratories and patients.
Taking into account their stories and opinions, we
wanted to create a product that would meet their needs.
The most frequent accusation was the lack of reminder
about the date of the upcoming laboratory test and the
lack of information about the status of the laboratory
test (at what stage it is and whether the results are
already available).
One way to find the best solution to your users'
problems is to use the Crazy 8 technique. The next slide
shows the sketches created with this technique.

Develop: Prototyping

In order to test the idea of our application, we

created a high-fidelity prototype. A selected
group of users regularly tested our prototype in
order to improve it.

Test: Validation & Feedback
During validation testing, 60% of users
noticed the lack of options that would
make it easier for them to navigate the
application. The first was the lack of
important notifications on the home
screen and the inability to enter the
messages menu from the home screen.
Both issues were corrected in the final
prototype.
Design: Iteration
After validation testing, we quickly
solved the problems pointed to by the
users. We have added an envelope icon
that links to the message menu, and
important notifications will be
displayed on the main screen of the
application.
Solution & Impact Overview
The implemented solutions allowed us
to create an application that meets the
expectations of users. The application is
still in the process of improvement, but
the changes already introduced ensure
better flow and a more intuitive user
interface.

access to medical services should be as intuitive and easy to use
as possible for everyone.
