Stardew Valley Challenge List

After seeing the Florist post, a lot of people seemed to want more of a challenge, so I
created a list of a few challenges I've seen and thought of. It's really open, because
they're all about you - so you can add, modify, do whatever you want!

Lumberjack

Your primary source of income must come through selling wood and foraging. You
can chop wood and forage off of your farm as well.

Fisherman

Your primary source of income must come through fishing (including crab pots).

Prospector
Primary income must come through selling rocks, gems, and metal ores/bars. You
r/StardewValley Use App
can also sell the results of geodes.

Ex-Soldier

Primary income must come through combat items.

Bonus challenge, try and complete Gil’s challenges within the first two years.
This is probably better combined with other challenges

Cowboy

Primary income must come from cows

Cheese presses are allowed
You can have a horse

Goat Herder

Primary income must come from goats

Cheese presses are allowed

Shepherd

Primary income must come from sheep

Looms are allowed

Fruit Orchard

Primary income must come from fruit or fruit trees

Preserve jars are allowed
Bonus Challenge: only grow one type of fruit/fruit tree.

Brewery

You are only allowed to use kegs as your main source of income
Plants grown must go into kegs before they can be sold
No wine or juice - you are not a winery.
Casks can be used to age beverages
Primary plant options are: Wheat, Hops, Honey (only wild honey)

Winery

You are only allowed to use kegs as your main source of income
Plants grown must go into kegs before they can be sold
Primary plant options are: grapes, cranberries, starfruit, melon, blueberries,
strawberries
No hops, wheat, honey allowed. You’re not a brewery.
No vegetables. Vegetables make juice, not wine.
Casks can be used to age beverages.
r/StardewValley Use App
Boy/Girl Scout

You must complete every quest/request sent to you

Anything on your journal is fair game
Bonus challenge: you can only collect items that the quest requires - nothing outside
of quests.

The Fifth Candle

All credit goes to Wafflebro

Link to more information
On the Third Year, you can be evaluated by Grandpa's ghost - there is a total of 21
points that you can get. Getting 12 gets you all four candles lit.
The fifth candle challenge is getting all 21 of those points in one year
Point list can be found here

Problem with "Brewery" and "Winery".

You can't access kegs without raising your Farming skill.

You can't raise your Farming skill without actually farming.

That's fair! But from some of my friends who play constantly, I know sometimes they
like to try a different challenge for every year they play? Like, first year is just
generally building up skills, and then second year rolls around, and they try a different
tactic, so they remain challenged for the most part.

I'm going for a gatherer challenge at the moment on the forest farm. No buying
seeds of any type. Fishing isn't really gathering, so no fishing (I'm waiting on a crab
from the mine, and then I'm going to try leveling fishing using crab pots and wild bait
- because collecting things from a crab pot is like gathering)
Scrambling around for foraging and looking for mixed seeds has so far been really
fun. r/StardewValley Use App

Buying anything else is pretty much fair game, and that way I'll eventually be able to
finish the community center with a bit of luck from the travelling cart. As truffles are
considered foraging, the end goal is to get a boat load of pigs, but I'm in no real rush.

+1 for not having a "Vegan Challenge" like most of these threads.

Don't get me wrong, I respect vegans, but playing a farming simulator and saying the
farmers can't milk cows, collect eggs, shear sheep, etc. is kinda... ridiculous. Lol.

Especially since in some of the cases (AKA Sheep) it's actually really dangerous to
the sheep's health to not have their wool sheared or trimmed regularly.

Just google "Shrek the Sheep" - it got so heavy and thick and covered his eyes it
could've killed him if he wasn't found. Shearing is rather healthy for sheep. I don't
agree with shearing baby sheep though, but you can't in Stardew anyway.

(And Cows need to be milked regularly nowadays, or they risk developing an

infection called mastitis) Back in the day they didn't, but most almost all cows in
captivity have been bred to be dairy cows, and that causes issues if they aren't
milked (and female, obvs)

Just find it funny how many people come up with a "Vegan Challenge" even though in
reality, it should just be "Don't consume eggs, milk, or anything made with them" or
such. I know vegan farmers who still sell eggs, milk, wool, and other animal products,
as they respect non-vegans.

The ironic part is their "Vegan" challenge would likely end with dead farm animals if
they attempted it in real life.

*No Offense meant to vegans, or those who do take part in that type of challenge,
but it's not really a vegan challenge, as you're not permitted to even loot eggs and
stuff, or sell them. Hell, some go one step further and say don't ride the horse, which
makes zero sense. MANY vegans ride horses, as it makes them feel connected to
them.

Well, even dairy cows will stop producing milk if they aren't being bred constantly and
don't have a calf. In general, dairy cows are absolutely destroyed by the dairy industry.
Their bodies wind up giving out on them years before their natural lifespans would be
over, because of the strain caused by being kept perpetually knocked up.

I'm neither a vegan nor a vegetarian, but it's pretty fuckin' brutal, mate.

Veganism also seriously bothers me, as it actively promotes animal abuse through
ignorance. You cannot feed a cat (or any other pet that happens to be an obligate
carnivore) a vegan diet. Not without it causing serious issues for the animal.

I wouldn't have brought it up, but I think its fair game to respond to the points you
made about animals and veganism. Re your first point about sheep, the sheep that
we have now have been breed to have insane amounts of wool, so that yes, in some
cases it would need to be trimmed, but obviously wild sheep aren't going around
dying due to having too much wool, they have a coat that is suitable for their
environment etc. The process of shearing can be poorly done and cause harm to the
animal, or it can be well done and cause minimal harm, but in a commercial context
with thousands of animals to do, the driving force is speed, efficiency and profit not
how well the sheep are treated. Therefore, commercial wool production has the
potential to cause great unnecessary harm when plant and synthetic fabrics and
textiles exist.

Regarding cows and needing to be milked, again, that is a misunderstanding. Cows,

like all mammals only produce milk to feed their young. In the dairy industry, the calf
is taken away from the mother, and if male, killed. As such, the mother will be
producing milk, and in the absence of her child, will "need to be milked". This is no
justification for the process of course. If you were to kill a woman's baby boy while
she was trying to breast-feed him, you could hardly claim to be doing her a favour by
then stealing her milk because it "needed to be done". The whole process doesn't
need to be done, and an abundance of non-dairy milks exist, so I am sure you can
find one to your liking.

As to vegans who produce animal products, that is strange and would not fit within
the normal scope of veganism, because veganism isn't just a diet, it is a philosophy, a
"way of living that seeks to exclude, as far as possible and practicable, all forms of
exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing and any other purpose", and
raising animals for milk, eggs etc is exploitation and unnecessary. It has nothing to
with 'respecting non-vegans'.

I dont really have a name for it yet, but i am working on a riverlands challenge
currently. The rules are:

No buying anything except bouquet from pierre or jojamart. Specifically trying to

make myself not buy seeds to farm.

No buying ores/coal from clint. Only upgrading tools/breaking geodes.

No going into the mines until you complete the community center and obtain the
galaxy sword. (an exception was me going in to mine a single copper node then
trashcanning the copper ore i found to trigger the clint event where he gives you the
forge recipe)

You can buy anything you want from the traveling cart/sewers.

No animals until the greenhouse is unlocked.

Basically so far, mixed seeds were my go to first spring, with an absolute TON of
fishing. I have acquired probably 12+ diamonds and 20+ emeralds this way along
with 2 of the awesome glaive swords.
I am using tons of crab pots and recyclers to recycle trash for ores to upgrade my
tools. Gotr/StardewValley
a coffee bean early and started a coffee field to slowly build farming skill. I Use App
am 4/6 on the dye bundle (for seedmaker) and 4/6 on the artisan bundle for a keg
which will allow me to make all the coffee from the beans i have been collecting.

Challenge is complete once you have completed the community center and gotten
the galaxy sword.

So you're banking on a fishing chest to provide you with a Prismatic Shard then?
Seems like that would take forever considering I'm on year 3 now, having had 10
fishing for a while, and have never gotten one from a chest, even with Pirate.

I actually did the farming challenge. I kept a small patch for growing things for
recepies, but all my money was made from fishing. It didn't end up very challenging,
however, fishing makes some dough XD

This is a cool idea, we should all do it with a new character for 1 season and
compare scores or something!

I've always gravitated toward the fishermen/winery path. I started out pretty good
with the fishing and I had to do something during the five days it took to make the
wine.

I like the idea of the lumberjack one though. Might try a new play through on the new
forest map.

I'm basically already doing brewery on my own. Granted, I also do wine, but my main
focus is growing things that can be turned into some form of alcohol. I hope
r/StardewValley Use App
sometime soon to have my farm be fully financed through my wines, beers, and ales,
as well as aging them in my casks, but that's kind of taking a while.

mmm I would take away starfruit and ancient fruit from the winery challenge,
basically are the most profitable crops on the game, most people already have those,
no point into putting time and effort in something like grapes when they give a bottle
for 240g when an ancient fruit gives you 1650g or a starfruit that gives you 2250g
per bottle (all of those are base prices no skill involved)

In fact I would add a rule against having kegs inside buildings, they are really
profitable
