Types of Web Pages

1. Blogs

Owing to their ease of use and the ready availability of supporting software, web logs, or
blogs, are the most popular, inexpensive, and widespread form of web content
management. Blog software such as Blogger, Roller, or WordPress allows nontechnical
users to combine text, graphics, and digital media files easily into interactive web pages.

The typical blog content genre is an online diary of life events (personal blogs) or short
commentary on particular subject (politics, technology, specialized topics), but blog
software can easily be adapted to support collaborative work within social groups or
internal and external enterprise communications.

2. Wikis

A wiki is a specialized form of content-managed web site designed to support the easy
collaborative creation of web pages by groups of users. In other words, persons from
various section of the world, are permitted to contribute words or make changes to
content of the wiki pages, not just to post comments about the content. Wikis such as the
well-known Wikipedia online encyclopedia can be publicly accessible and edited by any
user, but wiki software can also be used to support more private collaboration projects,
where only members of the group can see and edit the wiki content. In wikis the changes
to content are typically visible instantly after changes are made, and the workflow model
is “open,” without a formal approval process for new content changes and additions.

3. Business 

Business web pages are those which are specifically created for the purpose of

promoting various products or services. They are also used to provide customer support

for customers who normally have issues or questions about their products and services

offered by the business. An example of a business web page is that of Digicel Jamaica,

where they promote their data plans, roaming plans, cellphones and other services. Often

when persons visit business pages, they are able to access their online catalogs, product

updates as well as new versions of products. One such new product that Digicel may

have on their web page is that of the IPhone and Samsung galaxy newest phones. The

web page often provides documentation about a product, as this will give customers an

idea of the features of a specific phone and all its capabilities. Business pages often

requests information about a person's lifestyle, demographics, or finances so that they

can have an idea of the niche market that would make the most contribution to their

business development. Another example of a business web page is Micromat.

4. Informational 

Informational web pages are those pages that provide persons with factual
information about a topic. These web pages produce factual information in the form
of statistical data. In the cases of research being carried out, they produce the results
in the form of tables, graphs or other numerical format. Informational web pages also
provide visitors with schedule or calendar of events with important dates that special
activities may take place. An example of this would be a school website that had a
calendar of events for all the important activities that are expected to take place over
the course of the school term or semester. An example of an informational web page
is the Jamaica Information Service (JIS) web page. Other information that an
informational web page may present includes:

 Provides information such as that contained in a reference book


 Provides a directory of names or businesses
 Provides a list of course schedules

5. News 

News web pages are those that normally provides current information on local,
regional, national, or international events. Additionally, they often provide current
information of a specific topic such as business, computers, or entertainment. An
example of a news web page is the Jamaica Gleaner news section/ page or
Television/CVM news page.

6. Marketing

Marketing web pages are those web pages created for the sole purpose of getting a
product or service recognized and accepted by a targeted set of persons. These web
pages are used to introduce a new product or service to potential clients. An example
of marketing web page would be a facebook page created for products or services.
Twitter and Instagram pages are also created for the sole purpose of marketing a new
product and getting it recognized or familiarized by a particular niche.

7. Portal

Portals allow people to take advantage of heterogeneous services and give “gateway”
to various resources. The horizontal portals collect content and services to diverse
audiences and the vertical portals focus on specific issues of a well–defined segment
for users. Portals are often used by online libraries that stores resources such as
books, magazines, journals among other educational or factual information. Another
example would be schools or universities that allows students or potential students to
access calendar of events, module outlines among other things.
