Drawing in Microsoft Word

MODULE

INTRODUCTION
Microsoft Word includes drawing tools that would enable you to create your own
shapes, lines, text, arrows and many other options to draw with. Simply select the drawing tool
that you want and your mouse pointer to where you want to start. Then click and drag the
mouse pointer to the end of your drawing. The finished drawing can be resized, rotate, flipped,
and colored. Press and hold the SHIFT key while drawing lines to straighten them as in
drawing symmetrical shapes e.g. triangles to make them equilateral, squares from rectangle
icon and circle from oval icon.

By the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:

 Identify the basic command tools in making basic shapes;


 Apply various color in your shapes or picture;
 Draw using the basic shapes applying the formatting tool bar.

shapes?

Drawing objects include shapes, diagrams, flowcharts,


curves, lines, and WordArt. These objects are part of your
Word document. You can change and enhance these objects
with colors, patterns, borders, and other effects.

These are the basic types of graphics that you can use to enhance your Word
documents: drawing objects, SmartArt, charts, pictures, and clip art. Drawings refer to
a drawing object or a group of drawing objects.

CREATING BASIC SHAPES AND PICURES IN MICROSOFT WORD

MS Word includes drawing tools that would enable you to create your own shapes, lines, texts,
arrows and many other options to draw.


A. To insert basic shape:

1. On the Ribbon, click the Insert Tab and go to Illustrations group

2. Click the Shapes button

3. Choose and click your desired shape on the drop-down menu.


Note: You may choose Basic Shapes, Lines, Arrows, Block Arrows, Equation Shapes,
Flowchart, Stars and Banners, and Callouts

4. The mouse pointer changes to cross sign (+) as you go to the Document Area.

5. Position the mouse pointer on the document area where you will insert the shape.

B. To insert a picture:

1. On the Ribbon, click the Insert Tab and go to Illustrations group

2. Click the Pictures button. You may insert pictures from the device, from the stock image,
and from online pictures.

1. The Insert Picture dialogue box will appear. Choose the picture you want to insert.

2. Click Insert button.

FORMATTING BASIC SHAPES (including Lines, Arrows, Charts, etc)

After creating your drawing, the Ribbon displays the Drawing Tools Format tab. These
