New notebox
In this Release Info will we use a new type of notebox with a specific picture and a
clarification to indicate that this subject is about settings you might have saved in
earlier Tekla Structures versions. These could be files in your model templates
and/or ts folder. These files have to be updated in Tekla Structures 20.1:

Compatibility
Tekla Structures 20.1 is an intermediate version, and contains many new features
and fixes. Tekla Structures 20.1 is compatible with all previous versions.
You can open and edit existing models in Tekla Structures 20.0 but
we suggest that you complete any models you have started using
your current version.
In case you still open existing models created in an older version in Tekla
Structures 20.1, note the following issues:
• Plugins can be combined causing only Tekla plugins available.
• To avoid conversion problems, always open a model created with an
older version of Tekla Structures as a single-user model first.
• We recommend that you always check that custom components created
in older versions work correctly in the new version of Tekla Structures.
When you open custom components made with an older version of
Tekla Structures in the Custom component editor, and the new version
contains improvements requiring update, Tekla Structures asks whether
you want to update the component. If you do not update the component,
it works in the same manner as in the version where it was originally
made, but you do not gain the benefits of the improvements. If you
choose to update the component, you need to check and sometimes
even recreate dimensions depending on the improvements. When you
delete a dimension and create a new one (even with the same name),
also the equations containing the dimension need to be edited, because
the dependency created by the equation is lost when a dimension is
deleted. You can recreate the dimensions and edit the equations easily
in the Custom component editor.
When you save a model in Tekla Structures 20.1, you can open it in
Tekla Structures 20.0, but not in older versions of Tekla Structures.
Installing Tekla Structures setup creates a new subfolder for Tekla Structures 20.1.
You need Windows Administrator rights to install Tekla Structures 20.1. This
ensures that all Windows system folder *.dll files are updated.
Tekla Structures 20.1 uses .NET Framework 4.5.1, which will be installed on the
computer together with Tekla Structures if it is not already installed. .NET
Framework 4.5.1 can also be installed from Microsoft Download Center, click here.
Deactivating license(s):
NEVER click Cancel during activating or deactivating, due to this the
licenses might get lost and Tekla Structures will run anymore.
Activating/deactivating can sometimes take up to 10 minutes.
Toolbars Recreate toolbars in case red crosses appear as a pictogram in toolbars you took
from an older version.
Release Notes You can find the Tekla Structures 20.1 Release Notes here.
Since April 8th 2014, Microsoft stopped supporting Windows XP. The general
advice was not to use Windows XP after April 8th.
The end of support for Windows XP actually means the end of updates and even
security updates. If there are leaks found, you are so unlucky; there is no patch.
Windows XP will become increasingly less secure. It may be that things are not
going so gradually. Developers of malware love these outdated software and the
more people are using an outdated program, the more attractive they find it!
You can choose to upgrade from XP to 7 or 8 if your hardware supports a newer
operating system. You can check this by downloading and running the Windows 8
Upgrade Assistant.
You can import the indicated lis files to import both profiles and rules. The structure
will look like this:

IRR_Gh*b*h2*b2
IRR_Hh*b*h2*b2
IRR_Ih*b*b2

To do this, adjust the numbering settings before you use any numbering
command:
1. Click Drawings & Reports > Numbering > Numbering Settings.
2. In the Numbering Setup dialog box, select the Welds check box.
3. Click OK.
By default the option is switched off.

The option post-threading will be entered in the list in case holes have been
modelled by using bolt standard TAPPED_HOLE:
Now it is possible to create a report or a template listing all the holes and recesses,
or the part that is removed as a result of a cut.
Attribute ANTIMATERIAL was added as a new content type.

For example, you can use the new Copy Special > All Content to Another
Object command when you have detailed an assembly and want to copy all
details to another similar assembly.
When you use this command, you do not need to select each individual object to
copy, but you just select the source assembly or cast unit, and then the target
assembly or cast unit.
Tekla Structures copies the following objects in the assembly or cast unit:
• Secondary parts
• Reinforcement, bolts, and welds
• Cuts, fittings, and edge chamfers
• Sub-assemblies
• Components

The value 0 in the profile notation cannot be left out because of the angles which
differ from the default.
GAL500-1500-125-125-300-260-300-100
100
If the selection contains more objects then the defined value, Tekla Structures
does not check for duplicates. Enter an integer value. The default value is 100.
This advanced option is user-specific and the setting is saved in the file
options.bin in the folder ..\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Tekla
Structures\<version>\UserSettings
Restart Tekla Structures to activate the new value.
If the advanced option is set to 0, the functionality is switched off.
Construction circles are now shown with a continuous line in model views, not with
a dashed and polygonal line as previously. Now it is also accurate to snap to
construction circles, as they are true circles.
You can set the contour plate main axis to follow the line created by the first and
second points you pick. This enables you to manually define the plate orientation
in drawings and reports.
4. Select From 1st to 2nd creation point in the Main axis direction list box
5. Click Modify, and close the dialog box
6. Click Drawings & Reports > Numbering > Number Modified Objects to
update the numbering
To view the orientation of the plate, create a single-part drawing of the plate.
In the model

In the drawing
You can use this macro in Tekla Structures to manage model changes and make
the changes understandable.
You can use this macro to save the model status in a session, before and after a
model change. This is related to saving information about assemblies, parts, bolts
and welds.
Next you can compare several time sessions and display the information in
databases and reports.
To run this macro:
1. Click Tools > Macros... to open the Macros dialog box.
2. Select the macro and click Run.
The macro contains the following fixes:
2. You don’t need to create an export when writing the revision status to the user
defined attribute of an object (Parts, Assemblies, Bolts, Welds and
Reinforcement) on the tab UDA:
The component now includes the options U-shaped bended plate and L-shaped
bended plate to create a folded plate. To unfold this plate, you also need to set
the option Create shoe as to Polybeam in the component:
Also both tabs Borders and Grip profile include an option to add user defined
attributes.
Split + extra
beam
No extra beams
Double stanchions
For this, you can set the height on tab Opening 1 to define in which case the extra
stanchions have to be generated:
To define extra stanchions in between, you can use the following field on tab
Opening 1:
Rachel Rachel
These values are used in the filters in the Wizard-file Elements per zone in the
Master Drawing Catalog:
The drawings of the elements are now generated by means of this wizard file:
Frame Zone -1
Frame Zone -2
Frame Zone 2
The element drawings are generated whereby the settings for the objects have
been defined in the drawing views in Tekla Structures.
Tekla Structures
20.1
On the Parameters tab, you can select the Method of construction and define
the Fabricator name. You can also create a zinc hole, select the Bolt standard
and define the Tolerance.

Gussetplate (93)
System component Gussetplate (93) is deleted from Tekla Structures due to
some limitations in the component.
You can add this component, together with component Create points or lines
(98), to a customer toolbar (via Tools > Customize) to create or delete
construction lines and -points.
You can use system component Create points or lines (98) to quick and easily
create construction lines or -points.
Don’t change the name of the anchors (ANCHOR); Tekla will filter on this name
behind the scenes so that the anchors will appear on the list.
Using this list requires an internet connection to display the pictures in the list from
a server.
The pictures will be missing on the list in case that there is no internet connection.
There is also an option available to define the rotation of the piles: in the direction
of the beam (1) or relative to the global x- or y-axis (2):
Extensions are third party applications. This means that Construsoft cannot
support these extensions. Mind that extensions are very often available for
multiple Tekla Structures-versions.
Basically extensions have the status Experimental and they can be used by
everyone in Tekla Structures. Once an extension is also tested by Tekla and found
correct, then the status will change into Tekla approved.
Anchor (D2)
Custom component Anchor (D2) is deleted from the Tekla Structures installation.
These kinds of anchors can also be generated in system component Embedded
anchors (008):
Spiral_staircase
Tekla Structures 20.1 now includes custom component Spiral_staircase. This
component contains a lot of options, such as defining the direction of the staircase.
Next, in system component Footplate (1029) the thickness of the footplate is mod-
ified. As a result of this modification, the gussetplate and the footplate collide:
You can also manually recalculate these components in Tekla Structures. For that,
you need to double-click on the system component’s symbol to open the
properties dialog box. Next you must click the button Modify to recalculate the
component:
This is not really a problem in case you have only a few components. If the model
contains many components and if they are spread all over the model, it can be
quite a job.
The macro includes several options such as generating reports per phase from the
selected or from all parts.
See also For more information about this macro and using it, click hier for the pdf in the TUA
(Tekla User Assistance).
TRUE If you set the advanced option to TRUE, steel or concrete part marks that are
rotated more than 90 degrees, are placed upside down.
STEEL If you set the advanced option to STEEL, only steel part marks and associative
notes are placed upside down.
Keep in mind that opening the GA-drawing might take some longer!
Welds and weld Model welds and weld marks are now available also in single-part drawings. It is
marks in single- important to see the weld preparation and weld information in manufacturing and
part drawings checking.
Weld and weld If you need to select only the welds, use the Select drawing welds selection
mark selection switch. Previously this switch selected only the weld marks in drawings. When you
switches in now want to select the weld marks, use the Select drawing marks selection
drawings switch.
To add an icon for this plugin to a toolbar in de Drawing Editor, you create a new
(empty) toolbar in the Drawing Editor and add the command to the toolbar in de
Model Editor.
Updating settings
As you know, you can cut and paste all customer settings (saved by default in the
model folder) from the model folder to the folder ts.
Because of this, the customer settings are only located in the folder ts and after
restarting Tekla Structures, these settings are available in all models. This goes for
all files except the file dim_planes_table.txt.
During the installation of a new Tekla Structures-version, all folders except the
folder ts are updated by Construsoft. Construsoft always includes the most actual
files in these folders per version.
The advice is not to modify these updated folders (such as profil and system)
but only in the folder ts.
Files which have been supplied by Construsoft in previous versions and who were
copied to the folder ts (no matter if was meant or if it was not meant), can be
deleted.
You can check the date of the files to find out if these files were supplied by
Construsoft or if the files were creates or modified by yourself. Construsoft always
uses a specific date and time for the supplied files!
So files which have been supplied by Construsoft in previous versions and who
were copied to the folder ts (no matter if was meant or if it was not meant), can be
deleted.
You must check and update the files in the folder ts by yourself for the new
version, because settings can differ per version, e.g. when new fields or User
Defined Attributes are added!
See also You can find more information about using the ts folder on the Construsoft
Extranet
