“The beauty of the world lies in the diversity of its people”

 Unknown

The Human race is probably one of the most unique creatures on Earth, capable of changing the
surroundings given such a small amount of time. Eventually we would rise up from the shadows and
dominate the world as our population continues to bloom exponentially and with this comes a lot of
changes to the humanity as a whole. One of the major things that played a major role in history is
religion. From the ancient Mayans who predicted the stars to the Church of Satan just made a few
decades ago, all of this and many countless others made humanity to what it is now.

There are five types of religions:

 Polytheism – from the Greek word ‘polus’ and ‘theism’ which means a belief in the existence of
higher beings and/or deities; it means ‘many’ meaning religions who belong to this section
worship many different gods. Examples:

Hinduism – they have a whopping 33 million gods in total.

Greek polytheism – Mythology is a collection of myths from the past and is often associated with
religion, this is why it is not considered a religion. However it acted as the major religion of
ancient Greece and even spread to other areas in Europe but nothing lasts forever. Eventually it
will be outgrown by a more dominant and famous religion known today as Christianity.

 Monotheism – derived from the Greek word ‘mono’ and is similar to the Latin word ‘uni’ which
means one. So unlike Polytheism, these religions only have on God. Examples:

Christianity – currently the world’s largest religion based on population; it revolves around the
Holy Trinity which is YHWH in three different forms.

Islam – the second largest religion based on population; it revolves around Allah, similar to that
of Christianity.

 Atheism – they are a small percentage of the world’s populace that believes there is no God.
This is also the only religion that belongs to this section so…

Fun fact: ‘A’ in Atheism doesn’t mean anti, since atheism is not against religion but simply the
belief that there is no such thing as god.
 Animism – a type of religion that doesn’t focus Omni-potent and powerful heavenly beings but
rather the belief on Nature or things that are natural in nature like the elements and animals.

The best example of this is Shinto, which is about the worshiping of spiritual beings known as
‘kami’ which can be found anywhere including objects like the sun and the moon.

 Totemism – a religion that focuses on the worship of the relationship of us humans to spiritual
beings in nature. These types are often found in scattered areas all around the world especially
in ethnic groups scattered across all continents. Examples:

Wiradjuri – New South Wales, Australia

Nor-Papua – New Guinea

Iban – Sarawak, Malaysia
