• From the above table we can understand that almost all the health care facilities do
not satisfy the standard requirements of Urban & Regional Development Plans
Formulation & Implementation guidelines.

Sports
Fig.10.2.4 Prashar • Therefore more number of health care centres with larger areas should be built or
Homeopathic Clinic at least the existing facilities should be expanded to cater the existing and future MORE THAN HALF OF THE

• There are sufficient number of hospitals and clinics in Kullu and Bhuntar, but the
GOV/REGIONAL HOSPITALS
area between Kullu and Bhuntar i.e. Pirdi does not have any hospitals or clinics.
• Hospitals and clinics are concentrated mostly in core Kullu and Bhuntar area and
the other areas surrounding them are deprived of medical facilities.
• In case of emergency, the people living in Pirdi, Sultanpur and surrounding area
5 GOVERNMENT

Distribution Services
have to travel either to Kullu or Bhuntar for getting medical treatments (Distance of
Pirdi from Kullu and Bhuntar is more than 3km and 5km respectively).
HOSPITALS
• Therefore, there is need for hospitals, clinics or maternity homes in these regions
i.e. Pirdi and Sultanpur.
• It is also observed that there is only one Maternity home in Kullu-Bhuntar Few of the facilities provided by
Agglomeration, which is situated in Bhuntar. the GOVERNMENT HOSPITALS
• Hence, one or more maternity homes situated at distance of 5kms to 10kms from
each other must be provided in Kullu, Sultanpur as well as in Pirdi area along with
Fig.10.2.5 City Hospital sufficient number of ambulance facilities. FREE SERVICES
• It is also observed that there is no Veterinary Centre in the study area, hence
provisions must be made to built at least 2 veterinary centres in the study area
situated at distance of 16kms to 20kms from each other.
24*7 ASSISTANCE
• From the household survey it is observed that more than 50% of the population
prefer using Government hospitals as the Government Hospitals are well equipped
with all the modern technologies and machines which helps in easy, fast and
accurate diagnosis of the patients’ problems.
• Government hospitals also provide all the services like consultation and medicines CLEAN & WELL QUIPPED

free of cost. WITH ALL THE NECESSARY

• It is was observed through the interviews taken that some of the remote villages

like Garsa were not accessible to any Health care facilities, thus efforts must be
taken to improve the access ways to the hospitals. 29

• Kullu Dussehra - Kullu Dussehra is however, different in certain ways from Dussehra celebrations in the other
parts of the country. It presents cultural ethos of the people and their deep rooted religious beliefs which
manifest during this festival with traditional songs, dances and colorful dress.
• Pipal Jatra/ Vasantotsava- The traditional name of Vasantotasava is Pipal Jatra or it is also called Rai-ri-Jach. It
takes place at Dhalpur, Kullu on 16th Baisakh every year. Cultural programs are organized with classical music Fig.10.2.13 Kullu Folk Dance - Dusshehra
songs and dances. Vanstosava is now held from 28th April to 30th April every year. It is also very significant from Festival
the business point of view. The people belonging to Lahaul begin to return to their native place after passing cold
wither in the valley. This fair gives them an opportunity to buy their agricultural tools and other useful/ needful
equipment’s and items.
• Shamshi Virshu- This fair is held on 1st Baisakh (April 13) for one day in village Khokhan. The fair is religious and
seasonal. The women sing and dance around the Rahta carrying the Devi. The devi is also danced about. Men-fold
stay on as spectators and on-lookers.
• Mela Bhuntar- The fair is held on 1st Ashad (June-July) for 3 days in village Bhunter. The fair is seasonal and
religious. The fair was started by the Devta of the ilaqua Suraj Pal. Palaghmiar a Devta from mardo also attends.
From this day the use of food grains from the newly harvested crops starts after cooked food offerings are made Fig.10.2.14 International Kullu Dusshehra
to the gods and then the meal is shared by other relatives and friends. This is known as ’Tahoolikhana’ in the local Festival

terminology.
INFERENCES
• It is observed that there are sufficient number of Banquet halls, Religious places and community welfare centres in the study area.
• The areas of the above mentioned socio-cultural facilities, except the banquet hall facility, fulfil the standard requirements of URDPFI guidelines even for the
future.
• It is observed that spaces of worship are also used as social gathering places, meditation, celebrating festivals, etc.
• Few of the major festivals are celebrated on Kullu Stadium, many people gather on the grounds and celebrate these festivals on large scale, thus creating great
social gathering places and entertainment for the residents as well.
