Introduction
How’s your day dear learner? Do you have with you a gadget or any item which
you think is a product of globalization? Well, today we have to thank that these
products were made as they simplify our daily life and probably made a better living
for us. This module- “Gadgets, Business Enterprise, Industrial/Technological, &
Agricultural Products- The Origin” will give you insights about the things which we
cannot live without today. Let’s begin!

Objective
Illustrate the origin of the different components of a gadget, business
enterprise, and industrial/technological/agricultural product through a mind map
and reflection essay. HUMSS_MCT12-If-g-7

Vocabulary List

Learning Activities
What is a gadget? A gadget according to Merriam Webster
Dictionary is often a small mechanical or electronic device
with a practical use but often thought of as a novelty.
When you discover a new gadget in the market, you get that
feeling that you need to try it out, right? You become curious
and maybe wanting to know how it was invented and how it
can change your life. In the 21st century generation, gadgets are really helpful in our
everyday life. Computers, laptops, smart phones, and even digital cameras allow us
to work, communicate, study, and function. So how were gadgets discovered? Here
are some known facts pertaining to the revolution of gadgets.

In the 18th century, the gadget being referred to was a tool in glassmaking that
was developed as a spring pontil. A glass dictionary published by the Corning
Museum of Glass, defines a gadget as “a metal rod with a spring clip that grips
the foot of a vessel and so avoids the use of a pontil. Gadgets were first used in
the late 18th century

The earliest use in print of the word "gadget" was in 1886 thhru Robert Brown's
book Spunyarn and Spindrift A sailor boy’s log of a voyage out and home in a
China tea-clipper.

Gadget was known when Gaget, Gauthier & Cie, who were involved in
the construction of the Statue of Liberty in 1886 made a small-scale version of the
statue and named it after their firm
•This story was contradicted by the evidence that the word was already used
before in nautical circles, and the fact that it did not become popular, at least in
the USA, until after World War I.

Other sources believed that the word Gadget was a derivation from the
French gâchette which has been applied to various pieces of a firing mechanism,
or the French gagée, a small tool or accessory

In the second half of the twentieth century, the term "gadget" connotes
compactness and mobility.

In the software field, Gadget refers to computer programs that provide services
without needing an independent application to be launched for each one.

The history of gadgets began since humans began creating tools to make their lives
easier. Today, global networks have developed the creation of new gadgets. Gadgets
were taken to a new level as inventors began to discover different uses that would
make our lives easier.

form societies. These societies then went on to develop civilizations, from which grew
new social institutions. Market was one, the State another. Business evolved as
synergies were created by bringing factors of production together, resulting in the

It is said that the history of business is so much alike with the history of human
society and civilization. Business affects all of us in one way or another especially
that we are now in the 21st century. Let us try to have a look to the essentials of
business enterprises, industrial/technological, and agricultural products over the

• 1760 – The Industrial Revolution


At this era, Americans were able to use machinery for their work and outsources
to underdeveloped countries.
• 1877 - Laissez-Faire and the Entrepreneurial Era
"Free market" was observed by the American economy which is still in use up to this
day where economic growth was maximized.
• 1900 - The Production Era
Statistics, research, and efficiency experts called scientific management were put
into use to manage production which leads to product innovation.
• 1940 - The Marketing Era
During this era, businesses were allowed to use commercials and ads. This brings
more profit as products are now easily noticed.
• 1980- The Global Era

At this time, U.S. businesses increase efficiency, improve quality, and cut costs
because of cheaper competition This created outsourcing and new markets.
• 2000 -The Information Era
We are said to be in the present era were the Internet and its impact on world
economy is inevitable. Through the Internet, networking has created various new
business opportunities and more advance production both in the industrial,
technological, and the agricultural sector.

Interconnections among nations of the world brought about by the development of


business enterprises & technology as well as the production of essential agricultural
products paved the way to globalization. Some people would want to improve the
things they already had by means of looking for a “greener pasture” and tried to be
out of the country. This is not difficult in today’s generation since the emergence of
these gadgets and improvements in the different sectors. What we need to do is to
embrace the “new normal” as they say and equipped ourselves with whatever
resources we may have.
