Introduction:
Hiring and getting the right employees on board is a very essential first step to
creating a strong workforce, and retaining that workforce requires a variety of strategies
ranging from onboarding and training, purposeful engagement and appropriate compensation.
In this portfolio, I will be arranging an interview for the position of a Human Resource
I have come to realise that human resource supervisors form very crucial part of the

company’s management team as they are in charge of all human resource program and

various employee-related matters. Though they have different responsibilities but generally,

they ensure the company’s standards are maintained during all the processes. On the other

hand, human resources managers are responsible for creating and managing a strong team.

Their duties range from human resource planning, job analysis, hiring the right talent and

in any organization as they help managers in various departments across the organization,

I never knew the responsibilities of HR managers and supervisors are different as I have

always put them under the same job roles, this exercise has thought me otherwise.

My previous misconceptions:
I had always looked at human resource technology as something that just makes life
difficult for job applicants as it requires them to spend a lot of time to understand the latest
recruiting tools but with this exercise, that misconception is cleared as I have come to realise

that HR technology is requisite as it allows us to be open to learning and understanding the
technology you will need to use once you are on the job
I am unable to document all the responses to the elaborate questions on this paper,
however I will summarize the most important parts that captured my attention.
The interviewee gave his thoughts about job elimination grounds to include poor
performance, compromise of company policy, unethical practices and business ramp down, a
further thought was given on how to drive results in the organization which he says comes

from focusing on what is most important for achieving the strategic goals of the organization

in order to create a balanced approach with a strict time frame. It also involves understanding

that, while increasing employee engagement is very crucial to increased productivity,
ou urc
employees also are required to be driven by results quick and better.
o
In handling unethical issues, there is need to evaluate whether the reported case is actually

unethical, and to achieve this you need all the information to be matched with the company
policy to determine what is unethical and if such is justified, to terminate such employee that

engages in such behaviour. Behaviours like embezzlement, incendiary gossip, racism and

I seem to agree with the responses of the applicant as most of the answers are very logical
and aligns with what I am learning about human resources in this unit. I personally do not
condone unethical behavior at work place and this makes me agree with grounds for
termination.

The most important part of the interview:
I enjoyed the part where the applicant talked about unethical practice involving racism
and discrimination, he mentioned something like unconscious bias, racism and stereotypes, I
learnt a lot in that aspect as I realise that a company that will love diversity should be
He mentioned briefly and straight to the point that a company that looks to have a

competitive edge in the global market should place their employees first, as happy

Summary of the interview/my thoughts:

The interview was one of a kind and I began to picture myself as an HR professional,

the interviewee was very professional, coordinated in his speech and confident in his

appearance. He gave me a background of how a typical interview looks like. From his

Human resource roles are wider than I thought, it requires creativity, cultural,
emotional and social intelligence as your job cut across departments of the organization. It
requires strategic thinking, a focused mindset to plan jobs and work together across
