Water Treatment Plant Maintenance Procedure

 Maintain a cleaning programme throughout the system.


 Development and implementation of watershed management practices
to reduce the risk of contamination.
 Continued diligence and enforcement of the City's backflow and cross-
Connection procedures.
 Maintain a continued programme for water pipeline rehabilitation.
 Continue the consistent water monitoring, testing and disinfection
programme.
 Carry out more frequent cleaning and inspection of water storage
facilities.
 Enforce the procedures established for repairing breaks
 Maintain Chlorine checks, Pre-chlorination and screening.
 pH correction by adding lime to reduce the acidity of the incoming raw
water.
 Coagulation/flocculation by adding chemicals that will cause small
particles in the water to encapsulate suspended particles in the water
and form a sediment in the tanks which can be removed prior to the
next stage in the process.
 Final chlorination, pH adjustment and fluoridation
 Pipeline flushing.
 Backflow prevention.
 Repairing pipe breaks.
 To implement the most economical and practical means of reducing
the corrosive action in the water system.
 To review all water related records identifying responsibility,
procedures.
