Potassium Iodide

Pਏਔਁਓਓਉਕ਍ Iਏ਄ਉ਄ਅ is used as a source of iodide ion as a

tracer for formation evaluation.

Pਏਔਁਓਓਉਕ਍ Iਏ਄ਉ਄ਅ is used in controlled concentrations in

drilling fluid such that the invasion of drilling fluid filtrate can
be determined during formation water evaluation.

Appearance................................……White solids, crystals or crystalline

TYPICAL PHYSICAL Odour/Taste………………………… Odourless
PROPERTIES Specific Gravity, g/cm3 @ 20°C....…..3.12
Flash Point, oC...............................…. 50
Solubility @ 20°C.........................…..Water soluble, 143g/100g H2O

APPLICATIONS P I provides an
effective, non-hazardous tracer.
P I does not effect
the properties of water based
drilling fluids.

P I is normally used
at a concentration to give 0.001
molar iodide concentration. To
achieve this 0.807 kg P
I is added to each cubic
meter of drilling fluid. The
additions are best carried out via a
chemical barrel and spread over the
entire circulating system as evenly
as possible. All subsequent
dilutions must be treated with the
same concentration to maintain
active levels.
TOXICITY Heavy Metal Content Wear gloves, goggles and other
AND HANDLING Al = mg/kg protection. In case of contact with
Cd = mg/kg eyes flush with water for 15
Co = mg/kg minutes and seek medical aid if any
Cr = mg/kg discomfort continues. In case of
Cu = mg/kg contact with skin, wash affected
Fe = mg/kg area with soap and water. The
Mg = mg/kg product is harmful if swallowed.
Mn = mg/kg Health and safety data sheet should
Ni = mg/kg be consulted before handling.

Hg = mg/kg restricted classification for
transportation by the international
or domestic regulatory agencies.
