Assignment 1

When it comes to culture there are only a few things that I can and feel comfortable. When it

comes to my family, I was lucky enough that in kindergarten we had to research our family trees

now I was and still am unable to trace my mother’s side of the family due to my grandmother

being adopted but I was able to to trace my father’s side all the way back to the ship they came

on 6 generations before me. Using this information, we learned that I was about 85-90 percent

Irish just on his side of the family the other little bit is traced back to the uk and Germany. Now

continuing with the Irish culture comes my name my full name is Elizabeth Jeane Maley both

Elizabeth and my last name Maley come from Irish culture Elizabeth comes from the queen of

Ireland and Maley being my family name. Now this leaves my middle name, Jeane this name

comes from my mother’s side of my family Jean is my grandmothers name and my mother

decided to continue the tradition of adding an extra E at the end of my name. Now culture is also

based on where you’re from and what you grow up around, so while I was born and raised in Las

Vegas my mother was born in Missouri and raised in Northern California while my dad was both

born and raised in upstate New York both met here and have been together since. Now the final

cultural thing about me is religion I was raised and baptized as a catholic but was considered non

practicing, as I got older I I realized that religion didn’t really fit me, and I tried looking into

other religions and found paganism and now it seems like a much better fit for me and helps me

understand myself a little more.
