Yarn B – Lilac

Notes

beginning chain 3 counts as first tr throughout.


beginning chain 2 counts as first htr throughout.
turning chain on rounds 1 through to round 9 does not count
as a stitch.
Stitch Guide

Double crochet (Dc): insert hook in stitch, yarn over, pull up loop, yarn
over and draw through two remaining loops.

Treble Crochet (Tr): Yarn over, insert hook in stitch, yarn over, pull up
loop, yarn over and draw through two loops, yarn
over and draw through remaining loops.

Half Treble (Htr): Yarn over, insert hook into the stitch, yarn over, pull
up loop, yarn over and draw through all loops on
the hook.

Bobble stitch (Bo): 5 partial trebles in the same stitch. *yarn over,
insert hook into the stitch, yarn over, pull up loop,
yarn over, pull through 2 loops, repeat from * 4
more times, 6 loops on the hook, pull up through all
loops.

Double crochet Into the stitch yarn over and pull through. Two
loops on the hook. into the next stitch yarn over and
together/decrease
pull through. Three loops on the hook. Yarn over
(1dctog):
and pull through all three loops.

The Pattern

Round 1
In Yarn A

6dc into a magic circle, pull magic circle


together, slip stitch into the top of the
first dc, chain 1 and turn

Stitch count: 6
Round 2
1dc and 1bo into each stitch around, slip
stitch into the top of the first dc, chain 1,
and turn.

Stitch count: 12 (6Bos)

Round 3
*2dc into the first stitch, 1dc into the
next stitch. Repeat from * around slip
stitch into the top of the first dc, chain 1,
and turn

Stitch count: 18

Round 4
*2dc into the first stitch, 1bo into the
next stitch. Repeat from *around slip
stitch into the top of the first dc, chain 1,
and turn

Stitch count: 27 (9Bos)

Round 5
*2dc into the first stitch, 1dc into the
next two stitches. Repeat from * around
slip stitch into the top of the first dc,
chain 1, and turn

Stitch count: 36
Round 6
*1dc into the first stitch, 1bo into the
next stitch. Repeat from *around slip
stitch into the top of the first dc, chain 1,
and turn

Stitch count: 36 (18Bos)

Round 7
*2dc into the first stitch, 1dc into the
next three stitches. Repeat from * 7 more
times, then 1 dc into remaining stitches
till the end of the round. slip stitch into
the top of the first dc, chain 1, and turn

Stitch count: 44

Round 8
*1dc into the first stitch, 1bo into the
next stitch. Repeat from *around slip
stitch into the top of the first dc, chain 1,
and turn

Stitch count: 44 (22Bos)

Round 9
*2dc into the first stitch, 1dc into the next
four stitches. Repeat from * 7 more times,
then 1 dc into remaining stitches till the
end of the round. slip stitch into the top of
the first dc, chain 1, and turn.
Cut Yarn A

Stitch count: 52
Round 10
We are now going to go from a circle to a
square.
Join Yarn B to any st

Chain 5, tr into the same stitch (this is


your first corner) *1tr into the next 2
stitches, 1 htr into the next 2 stitches, 1 dc
into the next 4 stitches, 1htr into the next
2 stitches, 1 tr into the next 2 stitches. (1tr
chain 2, 1 tr) into the next stitch. Repeat
from * around join to the third chain of
the chain 5 at the beginning

Stitch count: 14 stitches on each side and

Ch-2 at the corners

Round 11
Chain 3, into the corner space (2tr, chain 2, 2tr) 1tr into each stitch to the
corner. Repeat until all four sides are completed. Slip stitch into the
top of the chain 3.

Stitch count: 18 stitches on each side and Ch-2 at the corners

Round 12
Chain 3, 1tr into the next 2 stitches. Into the corner space (2tr, chain 2, 2
tr) 1tr into each stitch to the corner. Repeat until all four sides are
completed. Slip stitch into the top of the chain 3.

Stitch count: 22 stitches on each side and Ch-2 at the corners


Round 13
Chain 2, 1tr into the next 4 stitches. Into the corner space (2htr, chain 1,
2htr) 1htr into each stitch to the corner. Repeat until all four sides are
completed. Slip stitch into the top of the chain 3.
Cut yarn B.

Stitch count: 26 stitches on each side and Ch-1 at the corners

Round 14
Join Yarn D into any corner space.
Chain 1 (1dc, chain 2, 1dc) into the corner
space. Then 1 dc into each stitch to the
corner. Repeat until all four sides are
completed. Slip stitch into the top of the
first dc not the chain 1.
Cut yarn.

Stitch count: 28 stitches on each side and

Ch-1 at the corners

To make the eyes - Make 3

Round 1
In Yarn C

6dc into a magic circle, pull magic circle together, slip stitch into the
top of the first dc.
Cut Yarn C

Stitch count: 6
Round 2
Join Yarn D

2htr into each stitch around. Slip stitch into the top of the first htr.
Cut Yarn D

Stitch count: 12

Round 3
Join Yarn A

Chain 10, Join onto the eye with a dc,


*then into the next stitch 2dc, then into
the next 1dc. Repeat from * around the
eye, slip stitch into the top of the first dc.
Then 1 dc into each of the chains.
Cut Yarn A

Stitch count: 18 around the eye 10dc

down 'spine' or 'neck' of eye

To make legs

Leg 1
In Yarn A

Chain 7, 1dc into the second chain from the hook, dc into each chain.
Don’t cut yarn continue to make the second leg.
Leg 2
Chain 8, 1 dc into the second chain from the hook, 1dc into the next 5
chains, skip chain.

Leg 3-6
Repeat leg 2

To make arms - make 2

In Yarn A

The bobble monster’s left arm (your right) Chain 25, 1dc into the second
chain from the hook, 1dc into the next 2 stitches, 3dc into the next
stitch, *1dc into the next 2 stitches, 1dctog in the next 2 stitches, 1dc
into the next, 3dc into the next stitch. Repeat from * once more then
1dc into the remaining 4 stitches.

The bobble monster’s right arm (your
left) Chain 25, 1dc into the second chain
from the hook, 1dc into the next 2
stitches, 1dctog twice, 1dc into the next
stitch 3dc in the next stitch, 1dc into
the next, 1dctog twice, 1dc, 3dc into the
next, 1dctog twice then 1dc into the
remaining stitches.

To make the mouth chain 15 with Yarn C and sew in-between the
Bobbles of round 6 and 8.

Now all you need to do is sew all the other parts onto your
granny square. See below some descriptions on how to do this
and images for reference.

Using Yarn A
Eyes
Sew around the eye ball and
separately at the base of the ‘spine’
only. This means that when the long
neck or spine of the eye is not sewn
in, it will pop out more, making a
little 3D effect.
Arms
Sew these on either side of the
Bobble Monster beginning at the top
where its armpit would be. You can
sew down as far as you like. I have
decided to leave the bottoms of the
arms (where its hands would be)
unsewn, so they pop out a little.

Legs
you just need to sew this around the
curve of the bottom of the last round
of bobble stitches..

You've now completed your

granny square!
