Who was Rani Laxmibai?

Rani Laxmibai or Jhansi ki Rani was an Indian

queen. She was the Maharani consort of the
Maratha Princely State of Jhansi from 1843 to
1853 as the wife of Maharaja Gangadhar Rao.

Rani Laxmibai was one of the leading figures of

the 1857 Indian Rebellion and she also became
a symbol of resistance to the British Raj for the
Indian Nationalists.

SBI authorised to issue electoral bonds

• The State Bank of India (SBI) has been authorised to

issue Electoral Bonds through its select 29 branches
during January 1-10, 2022.
• This was informed by the Finance Ministry on
December 30, 2021.
• The Electoral Bonds shall be valid for 15 days from the
date of issuance and no payment shall be made to any
payee Political Party if the Electoral Bond is deposited
after expiry of the validity period.
• The Electoral Bond deposited by an eligible Political
Party in its account shall be credited on the same day.
• Only the Political Parties registered under Section 29A of the
Representation of the People Act, 1951 (43 of 1951) and which secured not
less than one per cent of the votes polled in the last General Election to the
House of the People or the Legislative Assembly of the State, shall be
eligible to receive the Electoral Bonds.

• The Electoral Bonds shall be encashed by an eligible Political Party only

through a Bank account with the Authorized Bank.

Meeting
• The GST Council has decided to retain the status quo on
GST rate on textile to 5% and not raise it to 12%
• This meeting is significant as it comes ahead of the
Union Budget presentation, which will be presented in
the Parliament on February 1, 2022.

ministers of States and Union Territories and Union
ministers of state in the Ministry of Finance, Pankaj
Chaudhary and Bhagwat Kishanrao Karad along with
other senior officials of the Finance Ministry. The
