We work hard to live in pleasure and mostly forget being

patient and friendly with others. In every story we see our real faces and the author points us
to be more conscious. Happiness comes from gratitude feeling grateful and expressing thanks
to other people. Oscar Wilde's story ‘’the selfish giant’’ is a symbol of human being.
Selfishness can destroy your future and life, your angriness can change into cruelty. In order
to be happy and beloved person you should love yourself and then others. In this story we
can detach main problems expressing the moral of this text.

Garden with beautiful flowers and the more often the path is traversed odor of blossomed
flowers can make you dizzy. The garden is a symbol of paradise, everything is beautiful and
amazing. Giant is materialist, his possession should be for himself, and accordingly this is an
expression of selfishness which is the main problem of this story. Why the giant with gruff
voice built a huge wall? Having no friends and living alone makes you a different person, you
think about your prosperity and forget what does a feeling of happiness means. Selfish people
avoid responsibility and live on their own. The lack of love can change into cruelty. On the
other side this kind of people do not love children and their innocent smile irritates them.
Does selfishness prohibit everyone around them? At this point the giant banned children to
come around and play in his garden. It is a clear example of how he never played with them.
Even season forgets the existence of giant’s garden and only frost covers it. We can see how
people avoid cold person with no heart and kindness. Humanity rounds the world and love
can change an attitude of human being.

“I cannot understand why the spring is so late in coming,” “I believe the spring has come at
last,” giant asks himself and he cannot guess the situation. A little boy like an angel or
subconscious showed giant a power of children’s happiness. If you give away happiness to
others you can also feel happy and pleasured. It was a highlight point, giant regrets how
cruel he was to children. Pure and candid children are the key of happiness. The giant
understood it after he felt the warm hug from boy and a kiss on his face. You can imagine
how heartbreaking feeling it was. Better late than never, you can always redeem sins and
make others happy. You may have a complicated life and feeling stressed but being with
children is like a butterfly in your stomach. It is a sign of satisfaction and happiness, that no
money can buy it. Giant’s heart melts and gives up selfishness, we can see how cruelty can be
turned into love. I can say ‘’all doors open to courtesy’’ a little push was enough to melt the
giant and become noble.
One good life example can turn round your mind and a daily routine. The whole life
depends on you and do not forget ‘’never swop horses while crossing the stream’’. The
giant’s garden shows that happiness was nowhere to seen. The spring is a symbol of
happiness and the winter is a symbol of suffering. Giant’s feeling resembles to garden’s view,
the garden was cold like him. Sometimes people suffer themselves and limit their happiness.
Times pass and regret comes after all. People betray bad energy and a fortune do not comes
to them. God didn’t leave the giant and a little boy with a wound was a god. Giant loves this
boy because he assisted him to become better. Than a boy took him to a heaven. The giant
redeemed his sins and many years he lived with kindness and love.

In my opinion we should practice gratitude and I think that we should be more conscious
about how we relate to things that happen to us and how much we compare ourselves to
others .I do think that what we need to focus on the quality of our relationships. There
should be harmony between my true sense of who I am, what I think and how I relate to
others. If I am happy with myself I should give away it to feel better and friendly with
others. You may regret your choice and never forget that we learn from mistakes. Being true
and honest person will break all regrets and change your life into favor. The giant is an
example of cold human that gave up all selfishness and loved giving away enjoyment.
