Weyerhaeuser Bonsai Collection
Weyerhaeuser Bonsai Collection
Paul Richardson
May, 2011
It was a real pleasure to visit the Weyerhaeuser Pacific Rim Bonsai Collection
recently. It is located on the Weyerhaeuser Campus in Federal Way, Washington.
Federal Way is north of Tacoma and south of Seattle. The biggest takeaway for
me from the visit was the overwhelming sense of the infinite patience and attention
to detail of the creators of these works of art. The oldest specimen on display was
75 years old while most were in the 40 to 50 year old category. The cover picture
is of an azalea which was in full bloom, stunning. You access the garden on foot
and it is a short pleasant walk through a towering forest of mostly Douglas Fir.
Many rhododendron and native species are along the path providing an inviting
welcome.
The azalea again from the full sun side.
