SECTION – A ( 2 X 6 = 12 )

Q1. Find the value(s) of k for which the quadratic equation 2x² -
kx + k = 0 has equal roots .
Q2. For what value of p : x , 2x + p and 3x + 6 are in A . P.
Q3. Find the mode of the following frequency distribution :

Q4. Δ ABC is circumscribing a circle. Find the length of BC.

Q5. Two cubes each of volume 125cm³ are joined end to end . Find the surface area of the resulting
cuboid.

Q6. If the sum of two natural numbers is 8 and their product is 15 , find the numbers.

SECTION – B ( 3 X 4 = 12 )
Q7. Two pillars of equal height are on either side of a road, which is 100 m wide. The angles of
elevation of the top of the pillars are 60° and 30° at a point on the road between the pillars. Find the
position of the point between the pillars and the height of each pillar.
Q8. Draw a circle of radius 6 cm. from a point 10 cm away from its centre, construct the pair of
tangents to the circle and measure the length.
Q9. If the mean of the following distribution is 50, find the value of p :
Q10. Weekly income of 600 families is given below: Find the median.

SECTION – C ( 4 X 4 = 16 )
Q11. Prove that the parallelogram circumscribing a circle is a rhombus.
Q12. A tent is in the shape of a right circular cylinder upto a height of 3 m and conical above it. The
total height of the tent is 13.5 m and radius of base is 14 m. Find the cost of the cloth required to make
tent at the rate of Rs. 80 per square meter.

Case study – I

Q13.Your elder brother wants to buy a car and plans to take loan from a bank for his car. He repays
his total loan of Rs 1,18,000 by paying every month starting with the first installment of Rs 1000. If
he increases the installment by Rs 100 every month , answer the following :

1. Find the amount paid by him in 30th installment and the total amount paid by him in the 30
installments

2. (i) What amount does he still have to pay after paying 30th installment ?

(ii) If total installments are 40 then find the amount paid in the last installment?

Case study – II

Q14. Adventure camps are the perfect place for the children to practice decision making for
themselves without parents and teachers guiding their every move. Some students of a school reached
for adventure at Sakleshpur. At the camp, the waiters served some students with a welcome drink in a
cylindrical glass and some students in a hemispherical cup whose dimensions are shown below. After
that they went for a jungle trek. The jungle trek was enjoyable but tiring. As dusk fell, it was time to
take shelter. Each group of four students was given a canvas of area 551m². Each group had to make a
conical tent to accommodate all the four students. Assuming that all the stitching and wasting incurred
while cutting, would amount to 1m², the students put the tents. The radius of the tent is 7m.

1. Find the volume of cylindrical cup and that of hemispherical cup .


2. (i) Which container had more juice and by how much?
(ii) How much space on the ground is occupied by each student in the conical tent.
