2. T (student is correct)
3. NG (the student has made an assumption – the text does not give him that information)
4. F (the student is correct)
5. F (the student is wrong. The test says that some experts believe that not having a normal
childhood can do long-lasting damage – it does not only say what the mother and father say).
6. T (the student is correct)
7. NG (the student is wrong. Yes, the test only mentions one program but that does not tell us

In business (and in the IELTS test) you are assessed on your ability to communicate
ideas fluently. For that reason, we should avoid using fillers such as, “err” and “um” as
they don’t have any real meaning (other than you can’t think what to say!).

It’s always fun to be expressive and that’s just what “opinion openers” do. They show
you can organize and arrange your thinking clearly. In a real life setting they also help
you to persuade and influence!

During the test, it’s your time to shine and show off all your excellent language skills.
A top tip I teach my students is to practice story telling by describing things in
greater detail. By up-leveling this skill, you’ll be able to talk for longer and describe
things in a much more fluent and detailed way.
Practice writing out the 5 Ws against these example questions below. Then try and speak
in detail about the question, using your notes to guide you. The more you practice this
(with lots of different topics) the easier you will find speaking in detail and at length.
