III. ESSAY: Answer the following question as brief as you can . ( 15 points )

1. Explain why water is considered a universal solvent yet it can not

dissolve paints and cutex?

Water is known as the "universal solvent" because it dissolves more

compounds than any other liquid. This is critical for all living things on
the planet. It implies that water transports vital chemicals, minerals, and
nutrients everywhere it travels, whether through the air, the earth, or our
bodies.

Water's chemical makeup and physical properties make it a good solvent.

Water molecules are made up of polar oxygen and hydrogen atoms, with
one side (hydrogen) having a positive electrical charge and the other side
(oxygen) having a negative charge. This permits the water molecule to be
attracted to a wide range of other molecules.
All through this, Nail varnish or does not dissolve in water because the
water particles are not attracted to the nail varnish particles. They
remain clumped together and we can still see the nail varnish in the
water. We say that the nail varnish is insoluble in water and has formed
a suspension.
