Procedure:
Day 1- Lesson Topic: Plot
Anticipatory Set
Have students listen to the song Viva la Vida as they are entering the classroom
Give each student a copy of the song and ask them to identify the plot of the song.
Middle Phase
1. Guided Practice
Have students get into groups to identify the parts of a plot diagram in order using common fairy tales.
2. Independent Practice
Students will pick any fairy tale that was not used in class and fill out another plot diagram using that
story.
Concluding Phase
3. Closure/Summary
As a class, the teacher will go over the answers and answer any questions pertaining to the worksheet
Materials: (items, technology, etc.)plot diagrams, worksheets for all students, Powerpoint
Ask students what their idea of a perfect world is. Write them on the board so students can see their
ideas as they are reading the story.
Middle Phase
1. Guided Practice
As a class read 2 B R 0 2 B, ask students to be thinking about the importance of the structure of
the story
2. Independent Practice
Have students fill out a plot diagram based on the story. Have students answer an open-ended
question asking why the structure of the story was important.
Concluding Phase
3. Closure/Summary
As a class, go over the plot Diagram,
Follow up: What comes next to reinforce the lesson (HW or supplemental instruction)
Ask students to start thinking about a conflict in their daily life that they might want to write about.
Middle Phase
1. Guided Practice
Have students work on plot diagrams for their stories, have them share in groups to ensure
understanding
2. Independent Practice
Have students begin to write their stories
Concluding Phase
3. Closure/Summary
Have students turn in their plot diagrams and short stories, if completed
Follow up: What comes next to reinforce the lesson (HW or supplemental instruction)
If students did not finish their short stories it will be due at the end of the week.
