Instructions:

b. Refer back to the polite questions chart (3.2) and complete the
following questions, using the appropriate verb of your choice. Write
your sentences about the indicated context. For each context, you
may write three completely different questions, or three variations of
the same question.  

Context:  You are checking in for your flight


Examples:

1. Could I have an aisle seat please?


2. Could you tell me if the flight is still on time?
3. Do you happen to know if there’s any restaurants near the gate?

Context:  You’ve arrived at your destination, and you need transportation to


your hotel.
a) Do you know where I can get a taxi?
b) Could you please tell me what is the fastest way to get there?

Context:  You are in the window seat on your flight and need to get up to use
the restroom.
a) Excuse, could I pass? I need to go to the bathroom

Context:  Your flight has landed, and you don’t know where to go to claim your
baggage.
a) Do you know where I can pick my baggage?
b) Do I need a ticket to pick my baggage?
c) Could you please help me to get my baggage?
Context:  You need to fill out your customs forms, but you don’t have a pen.
a) Could you please lend me your pen?
b) Could someone tell me where I can get a pen?
c) Do you know if I need to fill all my form with pen?
Context: You want to make reservations for a client dinner and need to know
what time the restaurant is open until.

Context:  You have to use the bathroom urgently, but there is a long line.

Context:  The earphones the flight attendant gave you for the in-flight movie
don’t work.
a) Could you please provide me another set? These don’t work
b) Do you know if they can give me another one?
c) Could you please tell me how this work? I can’t hear nothing
Context: You want to know where the gym is located in your hotel.
a) Could you please tell me where is the gym?
b) Do you know if we need to pay to access to the gym?
c) Could you please tell me at what time is open the gym?
Context:  You lost your cellphone charger.
a) Could you please lend me you charger? I need to make a call
b) Do you where I can buy a charger here?
c) Do you know if the airport had free charge stations for the phones?
