ANTIHYPERLIPIDEMIC AGENTS

Antihyperlipidemic agents are the drugs used in the treatment of high levels of fats (lipids), such
as cholesterol, in the blood (hyperlipidemia). They are called lipid-lowering drugs.
Classification of Antihyperlipidemic agents

1. HMG Co A reductase inhibitors (Statins)


- Lovastatin, Atorvastatin, Simvastatin, Pravastatin, Fluvastatin, Rosuvastatin
2. Fibric acid derivatives
- Clofibrate, Fenofibrate, Gemfibrozil
3. Bile acid sequestrants
- Cholestyramine, Cholestipol
4. LDL oxidation inhibitors
- Probucol
5. Pyridine derivatives
- Nicotinic acid
