CHECK LIST FOR SLAB STEEL CHECKING.

i) Form Work::______
1) Sufficient number of vertical supports.
2) No hanging of vertical supports.
3) Cross bracing of vertical supports.
4) No gaps in centring plates.
5) No openings at column and beam junctions.
6) Extra supports should be spared for emergency use.
7) Soil below posts should be well settled/ CC blocks/ Horizontal beams/ Centring plates
8) Different levels of slab bottoms for different thickness of Slabs.
9) Stair case form should checked for Slope

ii) Columns ::_______


1) Columns steel on proposed slab top shall at least on lap length.
2) Rings / Stirrups 2 no above slab to arrest dislocation.
3) Column numbers should be marked with paint as per Grid Plan.
4) A check-line to a level shall be marked on all columns

iii) Beams::_______
1) Stirrup/ Ring External dimension should be checked and verify the clear cover available
at slab top.( This check should be done during cutting and bending of rings).
2) Stirrups should be bent to 135 degrees.
3) Bar Bending Schedule should be prepared for all RCC members.
4) Main STEEL dia and number of rods.
5) Spliced lap length w.r.t. approved drawing.
6) Staggering of laps.
7) Cover to Steel w.r.t. approved drawing.
8) Stirrups spacing.
9) Stirrups bending and binding.
10) Each Steel bar going to end shall have 'L’ bend.
11) Depth of Beam w.r.t. approved drawing.
12) Required cover at top of beam and slab at top.
13) Beam ends should have cantering plates, no open end.
14) Expansion joints should be checked with approved drawings.

iv) Slab steel::_______


1) Height of Slab bottom w.r.t. approved drawing.
2) Level should be checked.
3) Main STEEL w.r.t. approved drawing both dia of steel bar and spacing of steel.
4) Main STEEL should be in shorter span direction and at bottom of slab position.
5) Lap lengths as per approved drawing.
6) Staggering of laps.
7) Cover blocks of sufficient numbers.
8) Don't allow to place cover blocks during laying of concrete.
9) Extra steel over beams as per approved drawings.
10) Sufficient spacer bars or chairs to keep top steel at its specified positions.
11) Spacer bars should be placed on Cover blocks.
12) Tie bar at each corner of cranking.
13) Tie bar at the end of Extra steel.
14) Tieing with binding wire at every crossing of main STEEL with distribution STEEL.
15) STEEL bars running to slab end must have 'L’ bend and go round the top bar of beam.
16) Slab ends and sides should be covered with centring i.e. with form work.
17) Depth gauges to check the slab concrete depths during laying.
18) Construction joint should be approved by the Engineer-in-Charge.
19) No binding wire should be left on slab or beam centring.
20) Torsion steel should be provided at free corners of slab.

v) Coarse Aggregate::________
1) Check the Mix design.
2) Check gradation of Aggregate by blending 20 mm, 12 mm and 6 mm size metal as specified
in mix design.
3) Over Size Aggregate should not be permitted.
4) Flaky and Elongated Aggregate should not be permitted.
5) Sufficient quantity of each size metal should be stacked before hand.
6) Aggregate should be wet with water.

vi) Fine Aggregate::______


1) Check Gradation of sand and verify Zone of sand w.r.t. approved mix design.
2) Find Fineness Modulus of sand.
3) Find bulkage of Sand.
4) Find silt content of sand and check that it should be within limits.
5) Sufficient quantity for a day’s work should be stacked at site.

vii) Water ::________


1) Water should be potable.
2) Colour less.
3) Silt free.
4) Taste less.
5) Should be measured by 5 L, 2 L or 1L cans. Never by buckets or direct pumping.

viii) CEMENT::_________
1) Approved brand cement.
2) Latest stock as seen on bags.
3) Only OPC. Never use other than OPC 43 or OPC 53 grade cements.
4) Admixture should be as per approved mix design.
ix) Concrete::_______
1) Concrete Aggregate should be measured by weighing.
2) If volume is allowed, calculate volume of each Aggregate as per approved mix design.
3) Volume should be measured with Boxes only. Never by steel pans.
4) Each Box volume should be exactly equal to the volume of a single cement
bag.(50/1440=0.03472 cum.)
5) Concrete should not be laid at a temperature more than 30 degrees centigrade.

x) TOOLS and PLANTS::_______


1) Needle vibrator and spare needles.
2) Separate pan vibrator.
3) Trovel.
4) Mason float.
5) Depth gauge or wooden templates
6) Cubic moulds 6 or 12 numbers with tamping rod.
7) Slump cone to check workability.
8) Concrete producing plant should be calibrated.

xi) Curing ::______


1) Sprinkle water after 3 or 4 hours, not to allow to dry concrete.
2) Immediately next day water the slab continuously.
3) Gunny bags or heisan cloth should cover entire area and sides.
4) Arrangements of water ponding may be made without drying CC slab.
