UNDERSTANDING OF COMMUNITY

Every single day we used to hear the word “community” including in any government officials
and as well as businesses. But what does it really mean? According to different sources, it is
known as a group of people with a common characteristic or sharing similar interest who are
living together within a specific and larger society. It is safe to conclude that our neighborhood is
a community, even any other professional organizations is also a community. But in deep
understanding, community only make sense if it’s made up of people who can make us feel
uplifted, encouraged, inspired and even supported. Considering that your part of the community
it gives you the sense of belonging. Personally, I assumed that community is all about growing
with, and providing support for others, it can include my family members, friends and other
people I’ve known.
However, no matter how deeply we delve into the essence of community. We've developed
community theories that investigate and provide relevance for community practice. It can
provide us with detailed information on how we can conceptualize our community and, finally, it
can examine community in the context of structural forces that influence the community's
thinking and action. The first is Community Conceptualization. This theory's main idea is about
how the community began to develop the process of turning social status through urbanization
and industrialization. Conceptualizing is the process of generating ideas for how to transform one
thing into something else. Like our community before the nineteenth century, we used to come
up with urbanizations and industrializations in order to bring about massive changes in our
community. The next one is Community as Space and Place. A community of place is a kind of
community wherein people used to live together and even work together because they share a
same interest together. It includes the neighborhood, town, meeting or gathering place and many
more. The next one is Community as a political Unit. In simple definition, political unit serves as
the body of people under a single government. There are two orientations toward community as a
political unit. The first one, it focusses on the issues of participation based on democratic action.
While the second one is organizing social changes with the use of political mobilization. Many
people, even I, are agree that community is the foundation for pollical life. Because of that, I
believed that we should have the control promote democracy, local rights and local power.
The community's continuity and change. It took massive changes in the community for us to get
to where we are now. Many things have changed between the nineteenth and twenty-first
centuries. Thanks to various factors such as industrialization and urbanization, which played a
significant role in bringing about these changes. However, as time passed, we failed to notice our
communities' continued growth. "Changes happen over time," they said, and it would continue to
happen for future generations. Changes in the community occur for a reason, which includes
empowering low-income people, making people of color feel equal, and fighting to create a
society or community in which everyone can live.
