Day & Date: Subject: Verb to be

 To familiarize the children with verb to be and its usage


Learning objectives:
 Describe pictures using verb to be
 Create mini dialogues.

Teaching Strategies
 Review prior knowledge in large group
 I Do, We Do, You Do: Demonstrate planned small group activities in large
group; break into independent small group activities for follow up and
reinforcement; 4-5 children per table, 4 different activities 15-20 min. each
 Attention getters and brain breaks
 Calling Sticks during large group activity
 Guessing game

 For teacher led group; Flashcards, puppets, real objects
 Small Groups; colored paper sheets, glue, scissors, colors, pencils, markers,
Word pictures.

Lesson Evaluation
Activities:
Large Group; During the morning meeting time (circle time) Review letters sounds and words. We are going to say he is ,
she is , it i ,s by actions also we are going to say you are, they are , I am by specific actions and we are going to repeat
several times . Flashcards to introduce the new vocabulary and check their understanding verb to be. Encourage
discussion and ask the children the above-mentioned question.( who is she ? she is a girl ..what is this ? it is a cat , also I
am going to point to the door and ask them what is this ? it is a door also I am going to point to any girl in the class and
ask them who is she ? she is Farida , who is he ? he is Ahmed we are going to point to any group in the class and say
they are studying , also I am going to ask them what is your name ? I am Mohammed , point to your friend and say you
are happy or sad ,I am going to put” is” and “are” Word cards on the floor and give each student personal pronoun and
ask them which personal pronoun do you have ? for example he so you will jump to “is “or “are” ? he will say is okay great
let's jump to is and say he is.

Teacher Led Group: place the Flashcards in front of your children. Attach an image of one of their friends, using the verb
to be, the class gives hints about the character and the students guess who “he” or “she” is. for example, you are a boy, he
is tall, he has brown eyes, he wears a blue t shirt, so they are going to guess who is he?
Small Groups; Set up tables for independent, cooperative activities for groups of 4-5 children
1st table; Ask the children rearrange the sentence I am going to prepare flash cards words like “ cat “ “a” “it” “is”, and
they are going to re arrange it .
2nd table;children will color “ is” and “are” in the picture. I will prepare big “is” and “are” and they will decorate it by using
glitter and watercolors …
3rd table: I am going to put cards of” is” and “are” , they are going to pick what comes after he or she or it ( is or
are ) ,also what comes after “we” , “they” , and” you”,
