2.2 New Features for Compact HMI Version 6.0

This section describes the enhancements done in the Compact HMI Version 6.0 releases.

2.2.1 New Features for Compact HMI Version 6.0.3.2

Symbol factory
This symbol library contains more than 3,000 graphic symbols for industrial automation;
including pumps, valves, motors, tanks, PLC´s, pipes, ISA symbols, and more.
This library was included in Compact HMI Version 4.1, was not included in Compact HMI
Version 5.0 and 5.1, but is now reintroduced after customer requests.

Hyper-V
There is a possibility to use Microsoft Hyper Visor (Hyper-V) for virtualized installations.
Currently supported is the Microsoft HyperVisor which is part of the Windows Server
Operating System (Hyper-V support on Server 2016).
The obvious advantages using Hyper-V are:
• There is no additional software layer with its own life cycle.
• Hyper-V is part of the Operating System license, so no extra cost.
For configuration and set-up please refer to the user guide Virtualization with Microsoft
Hyper-V (3BSE082294*) which also contains advice for when to use ESXi and Hyper-V
respectively.
Hyper-V currently does not support Multisystem Integration, neither providers nor
subscribers. Providers are usually small and normally virtualization does not pay back.
Subscribers are usually larger systems in which case it is recommended to use ESXi in
case it should be virtualized.
Please note that the usage of Hyper-V is under managed introduction and is subject to
TSA request.

2 Functionality Changes
2.2 New Features for Compact HMI Version 6.0

Property Expression
The property expression feature is enhanced in this version with:
• A property calculation aspect which can calculate and expose new properties based
on other OPC properties in the system.
• One example of usage is to expose human readable string value instead of a Boolean
or integer.
• This feature contains the same expression language as in PG2 editor.

Soft Alarms
The soft alarm feature has been improved for the following:
• Performance improvements for alarm expressions using OPC properties by adding
the items in bulk. Fine tuning and configurations are made available in the
SoftAlarmsProperties aspect under Soft Alarms Service Group in Service Structure.
• It is possible to set a time span for which a condition in a Condition Alarm must stay
active before it is triggered as an alarm and similarly how long it must stay inactive
before returning to normal. The setting is done in the Alarm Expression aspect.
• It is possible to set a time span for which a condition in a Simple Event must stay
active before it is triggered as an event. The setting is done in the Alarm Expression
aspect.

Tag Information
The tag information feature is introduced in this version to show all the tag names or
descriptions for a predefined time next to the objects in a graphic display. This feature
can be configured in System Configuration Console (SCC). The tag information can be
toggled using a keyboard shortcut or using the context menu. It is possible to individually
override the placement of the tag in a graphic display.

3BSE064786-603 A 17
2 Functionality Changes
2.2 New Features for Compact HMI Version 6.0

Alarm Management
The alarm management feature is enhanced in this version with:
• When applying a hiding rule it is possible to apply the setting for already existing
alarms and not only to new alarms in an alarm list by using the Hide existing alarms
when hiding condition is activated check box in the Service Structure > Alarm
Manager Service > Service Group Definition aspect > Special Configuration Tab.
• When changing values for an extension attribute it is possible to apply the changes
for already existing alarms and not only to new alarms in an alarm list by using the
Publish Extension attribute changes check box in the Service Structure > Alarm
Manager Service > Service Group Definition aspect > Special Configuration Tab.

SMS and E-mail Messaging

New Functions:
• The Compact HMI e-mailing functionality to work on non-standard port (SMTP
protocol). The SMS and E-mail Service connects to the SMTP Relay Server on the
port number entered by the user.
• New attributes are added in Alarm and Event message source for configuring
messages.

2.2.2 New Features for Compact HMI Version 6.0.1

Improved Security
Compact HMI supports Windows UAC (User Account Control) in default state. Installation
and configuration needs administrator privileges whereas normal operation should be
performed with standard user privileges to maintain a secure operation environment.
Compact HMI is compatible with Microsoft Windows DEP (Data Execution Prevention).
DEP is a security feature preventing malicious code from executing in data memory,
typically buffer overflow attacks storing instructions in data memory.
All executable are now digitally signed and carry ABB branding and copyright information.

3BSE064786-603 A 18
2 Functionality Changes
2.2 New Features for Compact HMI Version 6.0

Installation
The installation of Compact HMI has been improved. Configuration and deployment is
performed centrally from one node in the system. No need to visit each node except
when the software is initially put on to the node, which can be performed in parallel.
Deployment of the configuration is fully automated and unattended, which means it can
be completed quickly. A more effective and automated installation not only saves
significant time, but also improves quality since it makes it easier to be consistent.

Rename PC nodes
Renaming from Plant Explorer or renaming when restoring a backup from the
Configuration Wizard, is currently not supported for Compact HMI nodes, clients and
servers.
The procedure to rename a system node is to use Configure System task to remove the
node from the system first. Then reinstall the node, prepare it with the Node Preparation
tool, add the node to the system and allocate the appropriate functions to it.

Engineering Studio installation supported without Microsoft Office as a Prerequisite

Prior to Compact HMI Version 6.0.1 release, Compact HMI and Engineering Studio
required Microsoft Office as a pre-requisite for installation. From 6.0 onwards, Compact
HMI can be installed on an Compact HMI node, even if Microsoft Office is not installed.
This reduces the 3rd party software footprint.
On Compact HMI nodes, which do not have Microsoft Office installed, features integrated
with Microsoft Office products like Control Builder M documentation, Excel Reports, Bulk
Data Manager, Bulk SPL and Document Manager functionality are not available.

ABB Start Menu

The new ABB Start Menu is used in Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 to display a Windows
7 style start menu for the ABB products. The start menu executes only in the desktop
environment.

3BSE064786-603 A 19
