Define Technical Descriptions
- It is a description of every part that goes into a mechanism, tool or piece of equipment.

Types of Technical Descriptions


 Operation Manuals: A manual for the user with all their needs concerning what they are
using. This information can include how to fix certain problems, and the uses of it.
 Product Demand Specifications: A request for a very specific item, these are usually
very descriptive with many specifications on which exact item is being requested.
 Study Reports Provided by Consulting Firms: These firms analyze in detail a problem,
then report the problem with exact and detailed information.
 Construction Design: This is a description of the exact placement, and measurements of
a structure prior to building it. One this process is done and cleared; construction can
begin.
 Sales Literature: Is a description of the product but used in such a way to promote
certain features of the product that would grab the consumers attention.

Definition of Process Analysis


- Process analysis is a step-by-step process describing how something functions. For example:
How metal detectors work.
Examples of Process Analysis
- Engineering: You need to clarify why structures are being built a certain way or why they are
built out of this and not that. The answer to those questions is process analysis.
- Automotive Sales: Describing how a car works or explaining a question from a customer about a
certain feature of the car is process analysis.
- Biomedical technology: Explaining your hypothesis and the evidence to support it. As well as
describing the effects that something has on your body is process analysis.

Criteria for Writing Technical Descriptions and Process Analyses


 Title: The title should precisely state your topic.
 Overall Organization: There are many parts of Organization that should be used to
further improve descriptions and the process analysis.
o Introduction- Should specify the topic, and give a brief description such as
functions, capabilities, and the processes.
o Discussion- Go into more detail about your topic, specific information, specific
data, and keep it organized so the audience can understand.
o Conclusion- The conclusion depends on the use of the article. Whether you are
describing the topic or explaining how it works.
 Highlighting Techniques: Using different headings or using visual aids to help the
readers easily see the main topics and information.

The Writing Process at Work


 Prewriting: Gather necessary data to be used in the article.
 Writing: Write the article organizing all the data.
 Rewriting: Proofread the article and fix the mistakes.
