KAPRICE KEA Film Director Bio 2016

CURRENT NEWS!
2016, sees the return of Kaprice’s work as a
film-maker to international screens.!
The year has started with GloryDays a rock
'n' roll comedy set in Pattaya (that he produ-
ced for Roy Alfred Jr), finally securing distribu-
tion, with limited theatrical release in Los An-
geles, and released via Amazon, iTunes.!
Then, later this year, a contemporary superna-
tural tale, set in the suburbs of Bangkok, The
Attic, a feature film that Kaprice has recently
directed (and re-incarnated),will begin life on
the international film festival circuit.

LONDON BACKGROUND!
Kaprice was born, and raised on
the rugged Kent coast, a land-
scape used to dramatic effect in
his debut 35mm short, Honey-
moon Beyond. Praised on
British TV by Danny Boyle as:
"excellent... shot with distinc-
tion, energy, commitment and
vision... a real film maker.”

Sensing a British new wave, Kaprice founded

Peeping Tom's, a networking club, for aspiring
filmmakers (the first of its kind), & then served
for 3 years on the Board of NPA, authoring
their acclaimed Producer's Training Program. !
!
In 1995, Kaprice wrote & directed his debut
feature, the hurting (95mins, 35mm), shocking
London audiences by depicting the subject of
male rape in open society, a taboo at the time.!

At the end of the decade Kaprice made the big decision to end life in London. With
his screenplay for Butterfly Man, describing the ‘karmic adventure’ of a young
backpacker, Kaprice left for Thailand in January 2000, to prepare the production.

In 2001, Butterfly Man (95 min, 35mm) started shooting. Being the first “indie”
film from overseas, that the local industry had encountered, the wild anecdotes
surrounding its making, inevitably secured, the film's place in Thai film folklore.!

Kaprice’s carefully-observed depiction of

how the islands’ exotic appeal, is under-
pinned by the abuse of disadvantaged
women, was acknowledged by James
Cameron in Film Review: "Kea has cap-
tured the seductive diversity of this
wondrous land... Kea has struck gold."

Bought by Thailand's Grammy Entertainment Group, the film opened on 200

screens nationwide, and received a theatrical release in London’s West End,
before selling widely around the globe. And the striking 19 year old female
lead, Mamee Nakprasitte, become the first Thai Actress in 25 years to win a
Best Actor award at an international film festival.

Despite directing TVCs for Thai television, and several music videos (most
notably I Wanna Be Your Dog, launching electro-clash band Futon), Kaprice
already knew that as a foreigner, it could take years to get a feature film fi-
nanced from Thailand. !
!
!So applying his directing skills to train actors in screen acting, and knowing
their rights from working in London, Kaprice formed fluid, to cultivate and
represent local acting talent (Thai or foreigner) for international films shoot-
ing in the Kingdom. To that end, he cites his mentoring and strategising of
19 year old Krystal Vee's acting career, which has taken her all the way to
Los Angeles, after landing a leading role in Universal Studios' franchise
Scorpion King 3, in 2010, as his most satisfying achievement.

In part, due to the decline in high-profile international

productions coming to Thailand, Kaprice began ap-
plying his experience and skills to Casting, and in a
few years racked up several impressive credits as a
Casting Director. !
!And it was for this position that leading US Music
Producer, Director, Roy Alfred Jr. initially approached
Kaprice. However, after spending a week discussing
Glory Days, Roy engaged Kaprice to produce his
epic rock movie instead. The film is now released,
and available via Amazon, iTunes etc.
