Did the story work for you? Why did it work/not work? Be specific.

It did and it didn’t. The begging was slow and took a while for me to understand the metaphor. Then
towards act 3, I started to understand that it was almost a representation of cancer or slowly losing a
loved one. Once you get that the storu\y means the most.
What’s the theme?
Slowing losing someone.
What’s the tone?
Comedy. Takes something very serious and makes it a little more metaphorical. Funny then kind of gets
dark and sad in the end.
Who’s the protagonist? What do they want?
I think the Daughter is the protagonist because we see her reaction to mom eventually floating into space.
This is when we realize that the story is about her emotions more than the mom “leaving earth”.
Who’s the antagonist? What do they want?
The condition is having the mom float and grow more and more towards space.
Do any characters achieve their goal?
The daughter grows into her own more and starts to explore her care for her mom even though it’s too
late.
Where are the act breaks?
When the mom starts to leave. Someone comes in and explains what will happen and how long until she
will leave earth into space. Then we approach her leaving from the crane and the daughter/dad’s reaction
to her being gone is the final act.
Is anything planted in ACT I that’s paid off in ACT II or III?
The daughter getting a good grade.
What scene sticks with you? Why?
The scene towards begging of act 3 where the mom begins to fly from the crane and sees the
birds because it symbolizes satisfaction with life. Leaving earth into the unknown and accepting
fate.
