Qn (2). MV Onesuch floating at a displacement of 7500 tonnes has a KG of 6.75m

i) Calculate its GM
Diff in Displ Reqd Displ Diff in KM
7289 7500 7.56
7616 7289 7.49
327 211 .07

Calculate KM for 7500 tonnes in SW = 7.56 – ( .07x211 ) = 7.56 - .045 = 7.52m

327
Km = 7.52 , KG = 6.75
GM = 0.77m
ii) Calculate the GZ when heeled to 5 degrees

GZ = GM sin O = 0.77 x Sin 5 degrees

GZ = .068 m

iii) Calculate the righting moment at 5 degrees heel

RM = x GZ tonne – meters ( t-m )

= 7500 x .068
RM = 509.86 t-m

Qn (3) a Briefly explain why it is neither safe nor desirable to for a ship to have a very large
positive GM and state the term that is generally used to indicate this condition.
What type of vessels are likely to end up in this condition when fully loaded ?
