2) This assignment carries 30 Marks, 20% of the entire coursework marks.

3) The presentation carries 20 Marks, 10% of the entire coursework marks.

Assignment 1

Course Overview:
This subject introduces students to the theory and concepts of management practices. It discusses the
core elements of management in pursuance of the development of business management.

Course Learning Outcomes:


CLO 1: Identify and discuss the basic principles of management related to an organization.
CLO 2: Explain the main concepts of planning, organizing, leading and controlling in an organization.
CLO 3: Demonstrate critical thinking skills to discern management practices.

Question:
Choose a real profit-oriented organisation (preferably local organisation), examine the following
concepts with the examples.

Required:
The answers shall contain the following discussions:

• management functions
• managerial roles
• organisational structure and organisational culture
• environmental influences
• leadership traits
• worker’s motivation/satisfaction.

i. Apply the concepts and diagrams learnt from the course to the information obtained from the
chosen organisation.
ii. References should only be from academic references (company website, newspaper articles,
journals, research papers).

Even though this is a group assignment, every group member is expected to understand the whole
flow of the assignment.

Format:
1. Students are required to work in a team of 4-5 and provide the name of the team leaders and the
organisations chosen for the assignment to the tutor latest by week 3. No group shall repeat the same
organisation, priority will be given to the group which has notified the tutor on the first come-first serve
basis.

2. Assignment must be typed written in font Times New Roman, sized 12, with 1.5 spacing and justify
the text alignment on A4 size papers. The length of the assignment shall be in the range of 3000 words.

3. The written assignment shall include the following:


a) Cover page
b) Plagiarism report
c) Group Written Assignment Marking Rubrics
d) Table of Content
e) Contents
f) References
•A comprehensive list of all academic reference books, journal, magazines, or website used as well as
cited quotes.
•All references are to be indicated using APA Referencing System.
f) Appendices (If any)
• Caption and in-text citation should include for each appendix.

4. The page must be numbered starting from the answers until references and appendices. Page
numbering to be placed on the bottom centre of the page.

5. The report shall be submitted in soft copy, PDF format in the LMS of the course. Rename the file to
“Course code_POM_Company Name”

6. Before submission, students are required to upload the soft copy of the written report to Turnitin to
check for plagiarism and upload the Turnitin report and the written assignment separately in the LMS.
Plagiarism threshold is 20%.

7. Plagiarism involves copying materials from other sources without acknowledging the original author.
The University treats plagiarism as a serious offense. Strict disciplinary action will be taken against
students, including failure of coursework or the unit.

8. Deadline for submission of group assignments is to be strictly adhered to. The deadline for uploading
the Group Written Assignment is on 5th January 2022 by 11.59 pm.
