Jose Rizal’s unconditional love for his country sentenced him to death on December 30, 1896. It
all started in Calamba, Laguna, the place he was born. Growing up, Jose Rizal showed passion
on his education which was reflected from his high-marking grades. As Rizal, become cultivated
with knowledge, he started to question things. One of it is the oppression of the Filipino people
in their own country. From that and a lot more education, Rizal decided to dedicate his life,
aside from fixing her mom’s eyes, into fulfilling his dream. Rizal aims to reform the Philippine
Society first, by uncovering its ills and second, by awakening the Filipino youth.
From this moment forward on, Rizal met a lot of people and at the same time Rizal did a lot of
works for his own Filipino and for his own achievements. He created organizations, artworks
and but most importantly not just to him but to every Filipino even today, his novels. Rizal’s
novel, Noli me Tangere, was his work in exposing the state of the Philippine society under the
Spanish rule. Jose Rizal wants to open the eyes of all the Filipinos the truth and because of this
the Spaniards prohibited Filipinos into reading it. It was then followed by a second novel that
shouts the word “Revenge”. It is none other than the El Filibusterismo. The book he dedicated
to the GOMBURZA and the book that indirectly sparked the Philippine Revolution.
Rizal life has ups and down. He enjoyed the small things in life. He loves his family. He had a lot
of girlfriends then there are also the bad ones. Rizal experienced discrimination in his life and
was even exile. But after of all this, Rizal never stopped pursuing his dream. Rizal never stopped
loving the Philippines. Rizal continued to write for the Filipino people. Unfortunately, the
enemies caught up. Rizal was sentenced to death for the crime of rebellion after the Philippine
Revolution in Bagumbayan. He was there against a firing squad with hands ties behind his back
however as soon as the rifles fire up, Rizal made a last effort to turn around. He falls facing the
sky.
The death of Rizal was heard around the nation. After his death, the revolution continued until
1898. In the same year, the Malolos Convention was inaugurated. Freedom and democracy
against the Spaniards were achieved. The colonial crisis was finally over.
A good takeaway from all of this is Rizal’s perseverance. Again, that guy never stopped. He
knew what he wants, and he did everything for it. One might also say that for, an intelligent
man like him, he knew that the gravity of his actions will lead to him to his death, yet he
continued. Aside from his way of fighting without bloodshed and the impact he did for every
revolutionary fighter, these are the reasons on why he is the Philippine’s National Hero.
