Activity 05: Slice of the Pie

Metal stamping, a cheap way in producing identical metal parts, has a huge demand
from 1980 and even until now. Metal stamping are called upon by still-booming
industries such as marine, medical, construction, aerospace, and technology.
Technology industry alone is such as a huge part of the current world and will be more
in a lot of scientific forecasts hence the increase of demand in metal stamping. With this
short statement, metal stamping is a clear good investment for countries capable in
doing it. One of these countries, is the Philippines. Philippines has been involved in the
metal stamping as the American influence with their own industrialization. The next
significant circumstance on the metal stamping in the Philippines was during the Marcos
Era. A strategy was implemented by the said administration in which it increased the
manufacturers and assembly plants in the Philippines. This affected the local metal
stamping and created a momentum of opportunities for them. Moving along the timeline
would be the Ramos Administration. In 1995, a policy was created that promotes the
export businesses. Another helpful administration also came by during the current
administration in the Philippines as it promoted the local industrialization.
Globally the market size of the metal stamping as of 2020 is somewhere along $200B.
This industry involves a lot of countries. Luckily, the Philippines is one of the top
countries leading it today. According to marketwatch.com. Philippines’ metal stamping
industry is expected to dominate the metal stamping market along with its neighboring
countries in the Asia-Pacific such as China, Japan, and Korea. However even with the
healthy state of it now, the Philippines’, in my point of view, must always be thinking of
improving rather than settling especially in the competitive global market. The question
is what a good strategy for the Philippines would be to have more percentage in the
market share of the metal stamping worldwide.
A productive move for the Philippines in a nationwide scope would be the promotion of it
not to other countries through exports but on the local citizen. One way would be the
involvement of the undergraduates. Building impressions of the citizen on the mindset of
not just working citizens but also inspiring students regarding a competitive industry
would possibly create a demand of better production. Instead of just looking for more
transactions, let us focus on the ingenuity of the local citizen on metal stamping. Doing
this would result to local factories in having more quantity and better quality. A domino
effect of this can result to Philippines in having competitive front against other countries
which can lead of not just creating but also stealing opportunities from other countries
involved in the metal stamping meaning a better market share for the Philippines.
