    Camila took a 10-hour flight to New York City which was long and tiring. Her friend Katie met her at the huge JFK airport. They took a taxi into the city where there were both poor and rich neighborhoods. They visited Central Park in the morning when it was not crowded and saw the Bethesda Fountain. In the evening, they went to busy Times Square which had hundreds of people and no traffic as it was closed to vehicles. They also saw a musical on Broadway.

    ACTIVITY N° 9

    A TRIP TO NEW YORK


    WAS/WERE/WASN’T/WEREN’T

    My name is Camila. Last summer I WAS. In the United States. The Voyage
    by plane WAS long and tiring and the plane ticket WAS quite expensive. It
    took me 10 hours to get to the New York airport.

    My friend Katie WAS. There waiting for me. I WAS.surprised by the size of
    the JFK airport. It WAS huge and there WERE very many people. I was glad
    my friend WAS there, otherwise I would probably get lost.

    A few minutes later we WERE in a cab. It WAS a typical NY cab – Big and
    yellow.

    We were in the car for an hour. There WERE poor, run down neighbourhoods
    and rich, luxurious ones. The city centre WAS fantastic. there WAS huge
    skyscrapers, and big roundabouts. The largest and busiest roundabout WAS
    the famous colubus circle. There was also an enormous traffic jam.

    We went to Katie’s apartment to leave the luggage and rest a bit. It


    WASsmall and cosywith a nice view of the park. I WASN’T (not) very tired
    so we went to see the biggest fountain in New York. It WAS the Bethesda
    Fountain in Central Park. There WEREN’T (not) many people in the park,
    because it WAS still early in the morning.

    Later we had lunch and were at some nice museums. In the evening we WAS
    at the world famous Time Square. There WERE hundreds of people, huge
    neon lights, billboards and advertisements. And there WEREN’T (not) any
    cars because it was a holiday and the square was closed to traffic. I WAS
    amazed!!!! We also WEREin one of the Broadway theatres to see a musical.
    It WAS great.
     How long was the voyage by plane? She was 10 HOURS.
     Was JFK airport big? Yes, it was.
     Was Camila affraid she should get lost without her friend? Yes, she
    was
     What is the name of the most famous roundabout? Its called time
    square
     What was in central park? there WAS huge skyscrapers, and big
    roundabouts. The largest and busiest roundabout WAS the famous
    colubus circle. There was also an enormous traffic jam.
     Were there many at the times square? Yes, it was

     The plane ticket wasn’t expensive. TF

     They went to Katie’s house by taxi. TF

     Only rich people live in the New York city. TF

     Katie’s apartment wasn’t big but it was nice and confortable. TF

     Cars weren’t allowed to the Times Square. TF

     They saw a play at Broadway theatre. TF
