7. Ramon Magsaysay

9. Diosdado Macapagal
10. Ferdinand Marcos

President of the Philippines that I admired most is Mr. Rodrigo Roa Duterte , before he became
president, Rodrigo Duterte had a reputation of being a tough mayor in the southern part of the country
called Davao…tough on criminals and drug dealers. When he became president, the drug lords were
very active all over the country, mostly in populated Metro Manila, were even prominent politicians
were implicated. I think he is the leader that we truly need these times. A hands-on and a strict leader
together with political will. His administration has achieved many things than the previous one. Duterte
is a man of action! And in a place like the Philippines, you need a leader who does what he promised…
and delivers…regardless of political and international consequence!

What’s New

if you were to share something about the current condition of the Philippines to the world in any of your
social media account what would be your status about?

Answer: The government's pandemic response had been stormed, with critics saying that the school
closure in the country reflected misplaced priorities and failed management of the health crisis.

Kundiman Filipino love songs from the present

O, ilaw May Minamahal by Rachel Alejandro
Sa gabing malamig
Wangis mo'y May minamahal
Bituin sa langit Bawat taong may damdamin
O, tanglaw May minamahal
Ayy...
Gising at magbangon Pag nagmamahal
O, ilaw Ng tunay mong pagmamahal
Larawan mo, Neneng Pag minamahal
Kaya’t tayo’y magpasalamat
Na lubhang mahimbing
Sa ating kapalaran
Buksan ang bintana
Nasa ating kapalaran
At ako'y dungawin
Nasa atin ang kaganapang hinahanap
Nang mapagtanto mo
Ng bawat nilalang na may puso rin
Ang tunay kong pagdaing
Dahil tayo’y hindi magbabago hangga’t may
buhay

Ibong sawi by (Sylvia La Torre)

Bituin Escalante – Kung Ako Na Lang Sana
Wala pang luminga
Nakikinig sa mga kwento mong paulit-ulit lang
Inabot ng hating gabi
Nagtitiis kahit nasasaktan

Ohh… ohhh

ASSESSMENT 2b:

Have you watch a balagtasan? it is averbal joust named after 18th century literary great fancisco
balagtas, author of the florante at laura. look up examples of the balagtasan from popular vedio-sharing
sites. does your generation have a counterpart for it? what is it called? contast the balagtasan with
present day form a verbal jousting. how do thier elements (language, theme, participants, setting, rules)
differ.

Answer: Balagtsan is an old form of debate among Filipinos, where the two poet exchanges poetic
verses Balagtasan consists of three speakers: a narrator, a male, and a woman. The three interact with
each other in a sort of a “debate.” Each of the speaker takes turns in sharing and reciting lines in poetic
rhyme in which the next speaker will try to respond in a form of rebuttal. Topics are primarily political,
including mostly with Filipino heroism in a formal manner. Sometimes the speaker also applies comedy
in their poetic lines. Fliptop is a modern balagtasan that aims to lift and revive the Filipino hip-hop in the
Philippines .The Fliptop consists of multiple judges that ranges from five to rarely ten, and three
speakers: an arbiter, and two male/female emcees also known as rappers, sometimes it is a battle
between a female and a male emcee.

The three interacts with each other in a form of informal debate. The two rappers take turns in reciting
their written bars and verses, mostly about each other's life and their deeds as a rapper. the two
elements present: verbal joust and the seeming rhyme and meter when the rappers battling (called
emcees or MCs) drop their bars or verses. Though both feature the nuances of poetry, there is a
distinction between their sensitivities. They belong to different historical and cultural channels, and we
have to recognize those attributes.

Significant Contribution of AMADO VERA HERNANDEZ to our nation’s literary identity

 “Makata ng Mangagawa”
 Amado V. Hernandez, poet, playwright, and novelist, is among the Filipino writers who
practiced “committed art”.
  In his view, the function of the writer is to act as the conscience of society and to affirm the
greatness of the human spirit in the face of inequity and oppression.
 Hernandez’s contribution to the development of Tagalog prose is considerable — he stripped
Tagalog of its ornate character and wrote in prose closer to the colloquial than the “official”
style permitted.
 His novel Mga Ibong Mandaragit, first written by Hernandez while in prison, is the first
Filipino socio- political novel that exposes the ills of the society as evident in the agrarian
problems of the 50s.
 Hernandez’s other works include: • Bayang Malaya • Isang Dipang Langit • Luha ng Buwaya
• Amado V. Hernandez: Tudla at Tudling: Katipunan ng mga Nalathalang Tula 1921-1970 •
Langaw sa Isang Basong Gatas at Iba Pang Kuwento ni Amado V. Hernandez •

Pre-colonial Period A short story is a brief work of literature, usually written
in narrative prose. A classic definition of a short story is that one
should be able to read it in one sitting
The short story revolves around one thing – Freedom. Or more
clearly, it seeks to define what is freedom, and what sense it makes to
those who are not free; slaved for the atonement of their sins.

 SELECTED WORKS OF Jose Rizal -  He is considered one of
the national heroes of the Philippines. Studying in Europe, he
was the most prominent advocate for reform in the Philippines
during the Spanish colonial era. He was wrongly implicated as
the leader of the Katipunan Revolution, and that led to his
execution on December 30, 1896, now celebrated as Rizal
Day, a national holiday in the country.
 MI ULTIMO ADIOS- a poem written by Philippine national
hero Dr José Rizal on the eve of his execution on 30
December 1896. This poem was one of the last notes he
wrote before his death; another that he had written was found
in his shoe but because the text was illegible, its contents
remains a mystery.
 SELECTED WORKS OF MARCELO H. DEL PILAR- He was
a celebrated figure in the Philippine Revolution and a leading
propagandist for reforms in the Philippines. Popularly known
as Plaridel, he was the editor and co-publisher of La

 This is a satire on the friars' hypocrisy, licentiousness and
greed, which consists of parodies of the Sign of the Cross, the
Act of Contrition, the Lord's Prayer, the Hail Mary, and the
catechism. Rizal considers this as a model of classical prose
and an excellent example of Tagalog humor, wit, and
