Literal translation: I am called Mark Lee.


Natural translation: I’m Mark Lee.

Sentence pattern to say “I’m [age].”

我 岁。

我 十八 岁。 Wǒ èrshíwǔ suì.
Wǒ shíbā suì . I'm 25 years old.

Literal translation: I 18 years old.


Natural translation: I'm 18 years old.

Wǒ láizì Měiguó . Nǐ láizì Yīngguó ma?

Literal translation: I come from America. Literal translation: You come from the United
Kingdom?
Natural translation: I'm from America. Natural translation: Are you from the United
Kingdom?

我来自北京。 你来自中国吗?
Wǒ láizì Běijīng Nǐ láizì Zhōngguó ma?

I'm from Beijing. Are you from China?

4 I’m not [A].

Sentence pattern to say "I’m not [occupation].” Sentence pattern to say “I’m not [nationality].”
我不是 [B] 。 我不是 [B] 。

我不是 医生 。 我不是 美国人 。


Wǒ búshì yīshēng . Wǒ búshì Měiguó rén .

Literal translation: I not be doctor. Literal translation: I not be American.


Natural translation: I am not doctor. Natural translation: I am not American.

我不是学生。
你是华人吗?
Wǒ búshì xuésheng.
Nǐ shì huárén ma?
I am not a student.
Are you Chinese?
