1. Which BS Standard refers “Safety Signs & relevant Colors”? Briefly explain
about the applications.

4. Briefly describe about the Principle of Cathodic Protection. What are the 2 Types.
Cathodic protection is a secondary defence against corrosion.
When steel is exposes in the atmosphere during lowering, backfilling or flotsam
impact on an offshore platform leg.
Due to presence of electrolyte the corrosion process starts at the point of damage
area, but if the steel is was in cathode condition by applying current corrosion will
never occur.
Two types impressed current and sacrificial anodes.
10. What would be material used for the metal cladding on an acoustic system?
Galvanized mild steel.

11. What would be the banding material used on an acoustic insulation system?
14. For thermal insulation which temperature range is covered in the specification?
Transco -200 to 1000 degC.
21. Which coating material is applied to stainless steel and nickel alloys?
Stainless steel and nickel based alloy will not
Be painted normally, but when required, the

22. What are the profile requirements for offshore abrasive blasting?
50 to 75 microns.
24. With regards to personnel, what are the contractors responsibilities offshore?
28. In order to preference list the paint application equipment used offshore.

Galvanizing=
1, the components are chemically cleaned (acid) washed and fluxed.
2, totally immersed in a vessel containing molten zinc at around 450
degC.
3, when drawn out the zinc solidifies at a average thickness
approximately 100 microns.
Sheradising=
1, nuts and bolts and other similar are coated with this method, after
cleaning the components are tumbled in the powder zinc, impact and
fuses the zinc on to the components and in effect “ cold welds” the
powder on the metal.
Anodizing =
1, treatment for aluminum, anodizing is an electrolyte method of coating,
which result in the formation of a dense oxide.
2, the components is measured in a weak acid bath and oxidation is
induced electrically.
33. The specification for an aluminium helideck is peculiar to the situation, in what
way?

BGAS Grade-1 - MODEL EXAM No: 3
34. Is it specified that cupro-nickel alloys are painted, and if so, in which situations?
It has corrosion resistant property that is why it is not
Coated and if it is mixed with other material or under
Insulation painting has to be carried out as per requirement.
35. For internal coatings on caissons what is the minimum preparation standard?
BS 7079 SA3.
36. What is the surface preparation overlap onto sound adjacent areas?
Blast cleaning.

NO.
46. If a painted section is damaged during transit, what surface preparation is done
prior to repair?
47. What is the system specified for splash zone, and to what thickness?
BS 7079 SA21/2
Primer = 2 pack epoxy = 30 microns.
Finish = coaltar epoxy 200x3=600.
Alternative colours black/brown/black.
49. On the underside of the cellar deck, which primer type is used if the area is wire
brushed instead of blasted?
Aluminium.
50. A damage to paintwork not exposing bare steel would be prepared and repaired in
what way?
coating around damaged area shall be cleaned and
chamfered to ensure continuity of the patch compound, the
coating system removed will then be re-applied in compliance
with the requirement of this document to achieve the full
coating system.
