2. (a) In a research, a type of bacteria will multiply itself in 1 minute. The number of bacteria at
the start of the research was 200. The number of bacteria after t minutes is given by 200(2t).
Determine the time, t, in minutes for the number of the bacteria to be 819 200. [2]
(b) Solve the value of 𝑥 in the equation 3𝑥+3 − 3𝑥+2 = 2 . [3]

3. (a) Express the following in to standard form.


(i) 45 100 000 [1]
(ii) 0.003 620 [1]
(b) Express 7.30 × 10−3 in ordinary notation. [1]

4. The rectangular floor of a living room measures 4000 cm long and 2800 cm wide.
The floor is covered with square tiles each of side 200 mm.
Calculate the number of square tiles used to cover the floor of the living room, leaving your
answer in standard form. [4]
5. Mr. Henry deposited his $7540 in a savings account that pays 2.15 % compound interest
rate per annum in 8 years.
(a) What will be his total amount of money after 8 years if it is compounded yearly? [3]
(b) Compute the total interest after 8 years if it is compounded quarterly? [3]
