Question 1
Your company just buy a new ball screw actuator to convert from rotary to linear system and a laser
displacement sensor to measure distance. Propose and describe any application, product and process
that use the actuator and the sensor.

Question 2
A DC servomotor has a stall torque of 1.7 N-m immediately after the voltage of 24 V is applied.
Assume the motor’s torque constant 𝐾𝐾𝑡𝑡 = 0.089 N-m/A and voltage constant is 0.13 V/ (rad/sec).
(a) Determine the armature resistance
(2 marks)
(b) Compare the maximum speed at a torque of zero and the rotational speed of the motor when
it is connected to a load whose torque characteristic is proportional to speed with a constant
of proportionality = 0.011 N-m/(rad/sec). Express the rotational speed as rev/min.

(c) What is the power delivered by the motor at the operating point in unit of Watts
(2 marks)
(d) Suggest the method to control the speed of DC servomotor
(2 marks)
