PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION
 Maintaining Inventory: During festivals, it’s difficult to
maintain the inventory because they used to sell 1
months sale in a week.
 Shrinkage: 0.02% of the total amount of inventory
comes under shrinkage. More shrinkage took place
during the transition.
 Unorganized placing of commodities and goods:
Different categories of products were placed on the
same pallets in some places in the warehouse.

OBSERVATIONS & KEY LEARNINGS

By visiting the Flipkart Wholesale warehouse students learnt
a lot about practicalities and concepts of B2B supply chain.
Mr. Chetan Sharma employee of Flipkart Wholesale
warehouse taught us about the warehouse inward process.
They sell items only to GST registered shopkeepers, resellers,
HoReCa and O&I (Office and Institutions). Reseller has the
biggest segment. In resellers, the sales team takes orders
directly from the shops and later on, they deliver
commodities and goods from the store to the shops. They
also provide 14 days of the credit limit on Kotak Mahindra
Bankcard based on their credit score. For any purchase from
the warehouse the card is being used for any type of
transaction. 4 additional cards are being provided with a
primary card.

They hold an inventory worth of 22 crores rupees. They have
per day receiving of commodities and goods of worth 80
lakhs to 1 crore. More receiving took place during festivals
and big billion day. They sell items to O&I (Office and
Institutions) and HoReCa at a 15-20% margin.
The total area of the warehouse is 54000 square feet in
which area of the sales floor is 32000 square feet. The
inventory or goods on the floor is worth 5 crores with a total
dispatch of worth 10 crores. There have different segments
for different products. All dairy products need to be stored in
the refrigerator so they have different sections for such
products. For dairy products, they kept a minimum
temperature of around 0-5 degrees Celsius and for frozen
commodities, they kept a temperature of storage at -17
degree Celsius. They have a separate storage segment for
meats, fruits and vegetables which were been closed due to
the pandemic.
Later on, Ms Sudha has taken over the session and taught us
about signage, product pricing and codes. There is a series of
products for which a code has been assigned which shows
the availability of the product at the store.

Every article has a unique digit item code. For the private and
personal brands there is a 4 digit number and for other
brands, there is a 5 digit number. Also, they have different
colour signage for private brand and other brands. For
personal and private brands they use yellow colour and for
other brands, they use white colour.

They put large signage for premium products. They have a

cart rail for which display most of the sold items. The location
of some commodities changes in every 15 days.

They have a refund policy but for some items, there is no
refund policy. The refund duration is of 24-28 days. Mostly
they applied a refund policy on those goods which have an
expiry date or quality of commodities is not at a certain level
of customer satisfaction. The store has a footfall of 400-500
per day. There are 70-80 cameras installed on the premises
of Flipkart Wholesale warehouse/store. The warehouse/store
conducted 3 cycle audits on regular basis and 1 annual audit.
Asset protection depends on the cashier and security guard
of the premises. They have a total workforce of 250
employees of which 160 are on roll and the rest are off roll.
The profit margin of the store increases with the increases in
the sale of quantity.
