61 Ways To Get More

Exposure For Your Music

No fluff. No B.S. Just 61 ways to get more exposure for your music.
Here we go…

1. Distribute your music to all major streaming platforms

Don’t just upload your music to your SoundCloud and social

media. Use a distributor to get your music placed on ALL major
streaming platforms. Distrokid is what I usually recommend for
most artists starting out, because you can upload as many
tracks as you want for 1 low annual price. You can sign up
HERE to receive a discount when you sign up

You can also watch learn more about music distribution and
some options besides Distrokid HERE on YouTube

2. Submit your music to Spotify’s editorial staff to be featured

on Official Spotify Playlists

3. Submit your music to “listener curated” playlists

There are tons of popular playlists on Spotify (and other streaming
platforms) that are curated by listeners, rather than staff editors.
You can submit your music directly to these curators if you have
their contact information.

Click here for a list of Spotify playlist curators and contact
information

4. Use a playlisting service like Playlist Push

Playlist Push is a service that has access to a network of listener
curated playlists that they will submit your music to for a fee.
There are a lot of similar services out there, but there are also a
lot of scams. PlaylistPush is a highly reputable service that I’ve
used in the past, and I know many artists that have had good
results from their service.

5. Use the TikTok promotion service from Playlist Push

Playlist Push now has a TikTok promotion service that will help
you get your music out to TikTok users.

NOTE: For the next 3, check out this 3 part video series to
learn more about promoting your music videos on YouTube with
video ads

17. Get tons of super cheap views on your music videos on

YouTube with “in-stream ads”

Use Google ads to run “in-stream” video ads that place your music
video in front other videos.

18. Get high quality views on your music videos on YouTube with
TARGETED “in-stream” video ads

Use in-stream video ads to place your music videos at the
beginning of other music videos for similar artists. Think of it like
opening for your favorite band ;-)

19. Get high quality views and increase engagement on your
music videos on YouTube with “Video Discovery” ads
These ads get fewer views than in-stream placements, but
engagement (likes, comments, subscribes) is typically higher.

promoting your music videos on YouTube with video ads

20. Submit your music videos directly to YouTube playlist

curators

YouTube is actually the biggest streaming platform in the world.
Spotify is the dominant audio-only streaming platform, but
YouTube has more than 5x the users.

Find popular music video playlists that feature similar artists and
send a message to the channel owner to see if you can get your
music video added to their playlist.

21. Plan your releases and promotions to get picked up by

Spotify’s algorithm

Spotify’s algorithm is one of the best tools for having your music
discovered by new listeners.

shared by Spotify’s algorithm

22. Plan your releases and promotions to get your music added
to Spotify’s Discover Weekly playlist

Okay, so this one is very much like #21. But Discover Weekly just
happens to be one of the biggest algorithmic playlists that could
help you get your music discovered, and I happen to have a short
video on that one that you can watch right here

Alternative URL: https://youtu.be/j5GHmLNEM48

23. Plan your releases and promotions to get your music added
to Release Radar

Another popular algorithmic playlist, but this one is completely
unique. Getting added to Release Radar is a little different from
getting picked up and shared by Spotify’s other algorithmic
playlists.

Watch this video to learn how to get your music added to
Release Radar

24. Add Spotify “Follow” button to your website

Getting more Spotify followers is going to help you get added to
algorithmic playlists, especially Release Radar. You can easily add
a Spotify Follow button to your blog or website just by adding a
small bit of code that you can generate for free HERE

button/

25. Use Hypeddit Landing pages when promoting your music

These simple landing pages can help focus visitors’ attention and
increase the chances of them streaming your music, following
you, joining your email list, etc.

You can get started with Hypeddit at https://hypeddit.com/

26. As an alternative to Hypeddit, you can use Distrokid’s

“Hyperfollow” page

This doesn't have as many features as Hypeddit, but it’s a free
alternative for Distrokid customers.

27. Use “Pre-Save” pages

With both Hypeddit and Distrokid’s “HyperFollow”, you can create
“Pre-Save” landing pages that can be used to increase
engagement on your new releases as soon as they drop. This can
help your music get picked up by algorithmic playlists.

28. Promote your Hypeddit page within the Hypeddit platform

Hypeddit has its own promotion feature the platform

29. Create your own playlists that feature your music

Create and share playlists that you create yourself. Playlists are
how a lot of people listen to, and discover, new music. By
creating your own playlist with a lot of bigger artists that are

Copyright 2021 JamMob Inc. | All Rights Reserved

popular and spinkling in some of your tracks, you can leverage
other artists’ music to help get yours heard.

30. Release cover songs

Cover songs are a great way to get discovered by new listeners.
Your version can get discovered when listeners are searching for
the original version, and cover songs have a “virality” factor. Fans
of the original version may share your cover with one another if
they enjoy it.

It’s actually super easy to get licenses to release covers of popular
songs. Watch this short video for details

Alternative URL: https://youtu.be/FXV-k4QUDF4

31. Focus on releasing singles rather than albums (sometimes)

There’s a time to release singles and a time to release albums. If

you already have a fan base, an album can make more sense.
But if you don’t have many followers yet, it could be
advantageous to plan on releasing a bunch of singles instead of
a full album.

Watch this video for a full explanation of why and when you
should release an album vs. singles (and vice versa)

Alternative URL: https://youtu.be/p1uFXouqVKU

32. Release music as frequently as possible

This goes hand in hand with #31. Frequently releasing new music

will help you get discovered and shared by Spotify’s algorithm
(and social media algorithms)

33. Release remixes, live performances, and alternate versions of

songs

Recording and releasing several different versions of the same

song can help you release music more frequently. This can be
done whether your official release plan is for a full album or a
bunch of singles.

Watch this video for 8 different ways to release the same song

34. Reach new listeners with Facebook and Instagram ads

This is one of the most powerful ways to reach new listeners on
any budget; yet it’s often underutilized by independent artists due
to inexperience and not understanding how to use these ads
effectively.

Watch this video for 8 tips to help you promote your music with
Facebook and Instagram ads

Alternative URL: https://youtu.be/Hgv0Jl7uZmU

35. Use remarketing ads to engage existing fans

It’s a common issue to be so focused on reaching new listeners
that artists fail to properly engage their existing fans. Social media

Copyright 2021 JamMob Inc. | All Rights Reserved

is the most common way to engage existing fans, however it’s
getting harder and harder to even reach your existing followers on
social media.

Remarketing ads can help you reach those fans and followers that
aren’t seeing your organic posts. Click here to learn how

Alternative URL: https://youtu.be/Hgv0Jl7uZmU?t=580

36. Email Marketing! Email Marketing! Email Marketing!

Effective email marketing can be a game changer for independent
artists. It gives you more control over your promotions than social
media, your email list is an asset that you actually own (unlike
followers on social media and streaming). And when done
effectively, it can help you build your following on ‘autopilot’.

Watch this 5-part YouTube series to learn how to use email
marketing to get more exposure for your music and grow your fan
base.

37. Post frequently on social media

Just like streaming algorithms love when you frequently release
new music, social media loves when you post frequently. More
frequent posting will increase your reach to your existing followers
and help you get discovered by new ones.

Many artists are afraid of posting too much. A common fear is that
frequently posting sub-par content will cause followers to unfollow

Copyright 2021 JamMob Inc. | All Rights Reserved

you. But the reality is that posting infrequently is doing more harm
than good. Bottom line, you’re more likely to gain new followers
than to lose old ones by posting as frequently as possible.

38. Link to your music in your social media bios

Platforms like Instagram and TikTok don’t let you post a lot of
links, especially when you have under 10K followers. Your bio link
is the only clickable link you’ll have on your social accounts in
some cases. Be sure to link to your new track on Spotify (or
SoundCloud, or Apple Music, or whatever) in your bio

39. (alternatively) Use Linktree in your bio

If you have more than 1 link you want to include in your bio. Use
Linktree https://linktr.ee

40. Use #hashtags

Hashtags will help you get discovered. Use them. But don’t just
make up hashtags. Use hashtags related to things that your
target fan base might actually be looking for

41. Post music videos for Facebook and IGTV

Don’t limit your music video reach to just YouTube. You can post
them on other social media platforms as well. The more places
your music can be discovered, the better. Long form videos can
be uploaded to Facebook and IGTV and both platforms have
discoverability features that can help your videos reach new
audiences

42. Post Music video clips to IG Reels and TikTok

Tons of potential fans are consuming “bite-sized” video clips on IG
Reels and TikTok. You won’t be able to post your full music videos
to these platforms, but you can post short clips and link to the full
video elsewhere in your bio

43. Cross-promote other artists

Got friends that are also musicians? Share their stuff to your email
list and social media followers and have them do the same for you

44. Pay influencers for shoutouts

Let influencers do what they do… influence. You can throw social
media influencers a few bucks to share your music with their
followers. Reach out to them directly, or use a service that helps
facilitate this type of transaction

Watch this short YouTube video to learn more about how you
can get shoutouts from social media influencers

Alternative URL: https://youtu.be/epvAsWvQyBg

45. Use Drooble promotion services

Drooble https://drooble.com is a “social media network for
musicians” It’s essentially a platform where you can go to connect
with other musicians and get your music heard. They have a
variety of services, including promotional services like Playlist
Pitching, PR services, and more

Copyright 2021 JamMob Inc. | All Rights Reserved

46. Earn “Karma Points” and exchange them for free promotion
services

Drooble allows you to perform tasks (like sharing other artists’
music) in exchange for “karma points” that you can, in turn,
exchange for services that will help you get more exposure for
your own music.

47. Announce your new release with a press release

Use a press release service like PRWeb or Drooble’s press
release service to announce your new release. Keep in mind,
however, that people don’t care that a no-name artist is releasing
new music.

For a press release to be effective, there needs to be an audience
that cares about the news. If you have a decent sized following
that’s looking forward to your new release, you might be able to
get away with a simple announcement of the new release date.

Alternatively, you might still be able to use a press release even if
no one knows who you are. You just have to be creative. You can
highlight something that might be of interest to people that don’t
know you. For example, “Winner of Nashville’s guitarist of the year
sets release date for 1st studio album with new band”

48. Use Spotify Ads to promote your music

Running ads on Spotify to promote your new music can be an
effective way to get people to take action and listen right away,
because they’re already right there on Spotify.

However, I wouldn’t suggest Spotify ads for everyone. They

Copyright 2021 JamMob Inc. | All Rights Reserved

actually tend to be more expensive than using something like
Facebook ads. I wouldn’t recommend them for reaching new
listeners, but they can be very effective for letting your existing
fans know about your new releases while they’re already on
Spotify.

Click here to learn more about the Spotify ads platform

49. Open for similar artists in your area

An oldie, but a goodie. Network with similar artists that are at a
comparable level to where you are in terms of their music career
and following. See if you can open for them. This will get you
exposure to their audience, which could turn some of them into
fans of yours.

50. Invite similar artists to open for you

This works just like opening for other bands. Invites other bands/
artists to come open for you and some of their fans might just stick
around to check you out too.

51. Use Instagram Reels to increase your discoverability on

Instagram

I already mentioned Reels earlier as a way to share clips of your
music videos. If you’re trying to build an audience and get
exposure on Instagram, Reels can help. Here’s why… Reels are
Instagram’s new feature they’re really trying to push, which means
the Instagram algorithm favors this type of content and will push it
out to more people. This is true for pretty much every new feature

Copyright 2021 JamMob Inc. | All Rights Reserved

that Instagram offers, so pay attention to their new features down
the road as well. Use them and Instagram will reward you with
more reach.

52. Go Live

Going live on Instagram, YouTube, and other social media is a
great way to connect with fans. It also helps increase your reach
on social media as well.

53. Use StoryAmp to get discovered by music journalists and

bloggers

Check it out at https://www.storyamp.com/

54. Promote pre-releases

Promote your music prior to the release. This will get your existing
fans excited about the new track your about to drop and it can
also improve your chances of getting noticed by new audiences.
And pre-release downloads and sales count towards your first
weeks sales numbers, which (if you have enough volume) can
help you land on sales charts

55. Hire a publicist

This is probably not necessary for most artists just starting out, but
a good publicist can help you grow your following once you have a
bit of momentum.

56. Radio tour

A publicist can help you book a radio tour or even tv interviews
when you get big enough. But you don’t have to wait until you’re a

Copyright 2021 JamMob Inc. | All Rights Reserved

big name for this kind of thing. You might be able to book some
interviews on your own with some college radio stations.

57. Podcast Tour

Okay. For most of you, this is going to be the “low-hanging fruit” to
actually book interviews and promote your music. Podcasts are
(probably) popping up as fast as new artists these days. And
they’re always looking for new content. It might be a little while
before you book Joe Rogan, but there are about a trillion other
podcasts out there that would love to interview you and have you
share some of your new music.

58. Interviews on YouTube

Same as with podcasts. There are tons of YouTubers out there
that are dying for help with fresh content. Do some digging and
find YouTube channels that feature musicians and do interviews.

Check the channel “About” section to see if they have their best
contact info listed. If not, comment on their newest video.
Preferably the day it drops. Comments tend to pile up and go
unanswered on old videos, but there’s a good chance they’ll be
monitoring the new one the day it goes live.

Target channels in the 10k-100K subscriber range. Those will be
big enough to actually help you get some decent reach, but not so
big that your request is going to get buried.

59. Put your music on Andrson

This is an AI platform designed to help A&R, managers, and
