Heat exchangers

Arguments that count

Globally active leaders in heat exchange

Technical specialists from DencoHappel concentrate worldwide on process technology
and components for demanding production processes in diverse final markets.
DencoHappel is a market and technology leader in all business sectors. The DencoHap-
pel experts bundle all activities in the field of heat exchangers and air treatment
systems and probably have the world’s largest product range in this sector.

• Are you looking for a manufacturer of heat exchangers with decades of experience
(in our case, almost 80 years)?
• Do you regularly need new heat exchangers with a variety of specifications, but
want to do business with only one manufacturer? You’ll save time and money with our

• Do you want prompt response from a local specialist, one who can effectively help offered range – from initial planning
to installation of equipment.
you meet your requirements – yet who is active and available around the world?
• Are you looking for a manufacturer who as a matter of course satisfies all commonly
applied standards in design and production of its heat exchangers?
• Do you demand a top-class cost-benefit ratio?
If your answer is a definite “yes” to all of the above questions, then your logical and
safe choice is to acquire heat exchangers from DencoHappel. Regardless of the
specifications that apply in your area of work and for your particular heat exchanger
application, DencoHappel will certainly convince you by its top-performance solutions
– backed up by decades of DencoHappel experience. Heat exchangers are used in
almost all industrial facilities to transfer heat from one medium to another. The fins
of a heat exchanger serve to enlarge its effective surface area, in order to optimise the
efficiency of heat transfer. The design of a specific heat exchanger will depend on its
application and on performance specifications. The factors governing the choice of
material for a heat exchanger likewise include application and performance. For this
reason after your first inquiry, you will soon receive an offer from your personal
consultant. Because we draw on three production sites for the manufacture of your
heat exchangers, your delivery will arrive soon. You will save time and money by
professional, experienced support from DencoHappel – from initial planning to
installation of equipment. Our worldwide distributing organisation sees to that – on
site at your location. DencoHappel tenders are carefully tailored to meet only your
individual requirements. Our comprehensive offering of heat exchangers – manufac-
tured from a wide range of materials and using diverse production processes – means
you can be absolutely sure of receiving exactly the heat exchanger you need. We select
precisely the optimal solution for your requirements – for example, from a choice of
50 different types of tubes in zinc-plated steel, stainless steel, copper-aluminium, or
copper-copper.

Guidelines for the best surface protection
of heat exchangers

Experience alone is not everything

General information on the most frequent surface corrosion causes

for heat exchangers.
All recommendations for use are based on experience and extensive testing at DencoHap-
pel, other heat exchanger manufacturers, and the manufacturers of protective treatment
measure, and should be considered as general guidelines for the selection of an optimal
air-side corrosion protection for heat exchangers. However, fundamentally DencoHappel
cannot assume any liability for corrosion damage.

Qualities of heat exchangers

Modern general-purpose buildings, shopping centers, large office complexes, as well
as industrial processes are shaped by comfort requirements, control accuracy and plant
requirements, where the integration of heat exchangers are specified in ever more
complex systems. High performance capability and operating continuity are the most
important characteristics for a system with the highest level of quality. The selection of
components therefore also presupposes carefully selected material, for example for the
heat exchanger coating. Corrosion is without doubt one of the main causes of defects,
and frequently requires time-consuming repair work. Of all the components susceptible
to corrosion, the heat exchanger fins are the most sensitive parts. Damages to these
components cause impaired performance and in extreme cases can lead to the failure of
entire assemblies.

Types of corrosion
Corrosion is designated as the decomposition process of a material leading to the
deterioration of the mechanical and physical characteristics of the material as a conse-
quence. Corrosion can occur in various types, depending on the underlying chemical
reaction:
• Corrosion caused by a direct attack (or chemical corrosion), if in the presence of liquid Corrosion protection for the best
water or water steam the metal is attacked by special chemical materials (an example surfaces

of this corrosion type is weathering corrosion); Heat exchangers are the heart of

• Electrochemical corrosion, when the reaction takes place through the contact of two climate control technology. To protect
it is our main concern. Come and
metal parts. If different metals are involved, one speaks of galvanic corrosion.
participate, also as planners, installers,
and operators of such a plant.
