Critical Reflection on the theme/talk(s) (Maximum 100 words)
The speaker discussed a myriad of issues affecting India's fishing industry. Before diving into
the concepts of blue economy centred around fishing communities, their traditional and
contemporary practises and mini-models, there is a lot more to be understood, like the current
situation of fishermen in India. The speaker said a point that the absolute number of fish
caught has been relatively stable in recent years, but the root of the problem is that fishing
communities lack access to profitable markets and also about overfishing. The significance of a
blue economy that is both sustainable and inclusive that provides for the present while not
jeopardising the chances for the future
The practical implementation of a sustainable blue economy in India is problematic due to the
existing level of education and the accompanying costs of the regulatory framework. Instead,
it should be viewed from the standpoint of the public in order to protect small-scale fishers and
preserve biodiversity.
